Clio is playing support car this weekend as we're at Cadwell in the slow MX5. When you've only got 87bhp you need all the help you can get...
Fit like a glove, and the parcel shelf went down! You wouldn't get those in a GT3!! 😂
A little late with the update as I was hopeful of having the track pictures but they've not landed yet...
Blyton Park // 08.04.2017
I booked an afternoon at Blyton with Mazda on Track to test the water with the Clio. The MoT days are well run and tend to have better than average driving...
I was delighted to get a text from Mr. Snappy saying my steering wheel was done today, so I popped around right away and picked it up.
I got straight to fitting it, using the how to as a guide. I expected the airbag to be a bit of a struggle and it took a bit of persistence but not a...
Today was the big day for the little Clio...
First impressions on the drive home are super positive!!
Much bigger difference than I had anticipated, I had been a little worried that I was looking forward to it a bit too much and there wouldn't be any real difference.
The main job was...
Couple of quick lunchtime jobs...
New torque arm insert to replace the incorrectly fitted or rather partially fitted effort by the previous owner.
Before:
After:
Much better! No wonder the manifold flexi went... :rage:
Then I replaced the rain seal on the driver's side:
I then applied...
Enjoying having a bit of light after work in the evening to tinker, will be even better when the clocks go back.
Latest small jobs, the first very small one was taken from Shuv's thread that I was reading through.
More prevention than cure on mine I think as I've never noticed a...
Back on topic and I now have all my bits to get the brakes ready for track action!
Experienced some, erm, budget creep on the pads! In the end I couldn't convince myself that any of the track options wouldn't squeal so I've just gone for a good track pad that I can swap back to OEM Pagids...
I have switched insurance to Greenlight given that it's being modified.
Also have the option of track cover with them so I've booked Blyton on the 8th April for the first outing, can't wait! :grimacing:
For anyone interested, a vid I popped together of our shakedown at Blyton in Dan (brother's) VX220:
In case anyone notices, Dan's helmet strap isn't fastened in one of the clips. It wasn't a deliberate thing, we're normally very safety conscious.
The MX2000 will be awesome once it's working Paul, I've got a misfire at high revs that's proving very tricky to find so I ha net used it since the charger went on! 😢
The Clio is providing a lovely distraction in the meantime though!
Now booked in for 29th Mar for the exhaust manifold and engine mounts.
Total cost with labour quote so far:
Manifold (eBay) £175
Engine mount insert (eBay) £25
Gearbox mount insert (eBay) £25
Labour (Birchdown Autos) £145
Total: £370
So a much more cost effective repair than I had initially...
Powerflex lower engine and gearbox mount inserts arrived today.
I've never used Powerflex before and they're very nicely packaged with neat little freebie key rings.
Bringing this up to date again...
Another consideration when I bought the car was that it had budget tyres fitted. Why on earth do people do this on driver's cars, such a shame!
So I knew I needed to buy a new set from the outset. The alloys were also in poor condition so I reasoned that this...
Big money but not crazy once I've sold the normal 200 Recaros.
Will be something I can enjoy every single time I drive the car! 😌
Old ones will be in the for sale section once I've cleaned them up and taken some pics.
I had been doing well with spending sensibly on the Clio until it went horribly wrong...
I had been considering a seat refurb so when these stunners popped up I couldn't resist. They really are lovely, I'm delighted with them.
I have also bought a spare steering wheel so I'm dropping...
I went for a ride around North Wales one Sunday and took some pics. The Clio felt great on the country roads despite the very British roads and budget tyres.
I will ask about 225/45 but they're not really my preference as I prefer the feel of a 'tighter' sidewall on track if that makes sense. For a 7.5" rim the 225s would be too wide for my taste.
As a comparison I have 225s on my main track car on a 9" rim!
Evening gents,
I think I've decided on AD08rs on the Clio but am tempted by £40 cheaper 215/40s over 45s.
I figure there won't be much sidewall flex in these tyres anyhow so it won't make much difference to ride comfort (or lack of!). Or have people tried and hated it?
The gearing change is...
I'm with you on a track car, my others are on 1c dry tyres and R1R wets. As the Clio will only see very ocassional track use it requires a compromise.
Apologies if it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string question' but I'm just trying to gauge how hard Clios are on tyres out on track.
My car is a 200 cup and is a 95% road car, I have a couple of track cars for regular track use but would like to do the ocassional day in the Clio to...
Yes, very noticeable, well worth the money. I should think I will ditch the rear speakers and bridge the rear outputs for an under seat sub eventually.
