I've got my Mk1 Clio RS ('00) for 2 years now. Since the beginning I've got that sticky clutch (at warm engine, especially in hard city traffic), and I hate it.

The butterfly valve has a double spring. My serviceman took one out to see if it helps. Result: much lighter accelerator pedal - but after engine and car is warmed it gets sticky again - and now having less resistance because of weaker spring, sometimes it sticks at 2000-2500 rpm.

Bought a new accelerator cable, and replaced the old one today. Same s**t. I even tried to put grease in it, even on the butterfly valve's (I don't really know if this is the english word for the thing that the cable is attached to) spring and the accelerator pedal's axle. And worse than before...
...really :) I'm new here, a bit alien yet... A fiver plus the price of an accelerator cable, as just have dismounted it and learned that nothing else could solve the problem but changing it. If is does...
Bad news for you: my 127 phase1 does the same, and I've already replaced not only the cable but the whole clutch set, and it REMAINED THE SAME. I really have no clues what the problem could be.
Moreover I have the same symptom with the accelerator pedal... I tend to think that the problem is...
