    The Smart Home Thread

As of tonight I now have a fully working heating system with the TRVs and Hive. All lights now controlled by Hue light switches with an aftermarket light switch cover over the old light switches that the Hues fit into. So no switching the lights off anymore. Also been working on a custom...

I've got the Sonoff in the office. https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/sonoff-zigbee-smart-relay-with-neutral?variant=54923427086715 I use this place for my Sonoff gear which had a neutral. https://shop.pimoroni.com/ But they also do a non neutral one as well that I think I'll need for the...

Sim Rigs - Let’s see yours

I went for the fixed seat because the reviews I saw said there was quite a bit of flex on the back for reclining chairs under heavy braking. Also, because I have the right hand side of mine up against the wall, with the handbrake being able to move the seat back is a saviour for getting in and...

It is rails on the rig itself. So yeah, it is not the seat, it is the rails that come loose fixing to the rig. I guess that is standard whatever seat you get.

July 2026? I've got the Prime Lite Which I think is the same as the R but comes with the side mount, I've got the monitor mount fixed to the rig as well, probably wouldn't do that if I went back again although it does look quite cool. Only other issue I have is that I need to tighten the seat...

Yes and no. 100% agree it would have been easier to just setup with an all Hive system but the Hive TRVs at £30 each more than the Sonoff. I think I need 8 so that is £240 saved straight off. Not looked into it yet but I can set scenes in Home Assistant. So I guess it would be possible to do...

More progress at lunch today (proper boring but I'm excited) Been trying to get my head around how I could reliably turn the heating on and off if I had multiple TRVs in HA telling the Hive when it needed to switch the boiler on and off. Much time of head scratching I decided I needed one thing...

My Eufy S340 has been up a few months now and records on motion/people in performance mode not battery and it hasn't dropped below 80% battery life yet. Get a ping most mornings to say it is fully charged. Great bit of kit.

Some more progress recently. Hive Thermostat installed Sonoff TRV installed. I've got them both added to Home Assistant now so when I get chance I'll check I can control them from there and then work out the automation to control the Hive from what the Sonoff TRVs are wanting. Also got a...

Sounds perfect to me, setup a zone that when your phone is detected the front door unlocks, saves all the messing about with keys and keeps your hands free. Perfect application that comes to mind would be some integration with things like AirBnBs

Amazing answer thank you. I think this circles round to my original thinking that a person who has vast experience plus a high technical ability along with the time could have done this, and I’m sure there are many people out there who could have done it but it comes down to the idea and...

Been seeing a bit more about this recently and question is could you alone with your skill set produce something similar and how long would it take? Reason I ask is that estimates are that he has grossed $20m so far with $8m profit.

Home cctv and phone apps? recommendations please!

Are yours wired? I don't think you can continually record on the solar ones because of battery life. Not sure how mine goes about recording, if it just records until it no longer detects motion or it is a fixed period. Guess I'll find out when someone trips it.

Home cctv and phone apps? recommendations please!

I got the S340 in February and the battery has been fine. East facing garden and I have trees blocking it early on. Also lose the sun just after midday on it. Never been below 80% and must ping off motion 30 times a day with me going in and out of the office. What extra does the homebase give you?

@SharkyUK probably one for you. Been seeing schedule 1 blow up last few weeks with near on half a million concurrent players. What kind of work is involved in developing this, considering it is apparently a one man dev? Is it pretty simple in game development terms if you know what you are...

Hue light switch installed and now controls the kids bedroom light on/off and brightness for a Tapo zigbee light bulb. The Tapo bulbs were 2 colour bulbs for £13 so a massive saving over Hue bulbs. The bottom Hue button now controls a smart plug that turns their lava lamp on and off. Also have...

Yes, I didn't think there would be so ignored everyone on here and went for the Series S, and 18 months later bought a Series X. Performance wise I see a massive difference and even if you don't the increased hard drive size is worth it.
