So, for the benefit of future searches turns out this judder was being caused by the Pirtek PAS pipe. I know a few run these without issue so looks like I have been unlucky. Must have been some resonance or restriction in the pipe. Anyway , standard Renault pipe fitted (awful job!) and problem...
Both pads are identical, they are cheapy gsf jobs , I'm wondering if that's the problem? It seems to me either the pad or the spring is wrong. I think if the back edge of the pad were a different shape the springs would fit properly.
They do fit flush until you put the springs in when they are...
I've always thought the clio could do with a diff fitted , sounds like a very wise way to spend your money there. Although they are bloody pricey!
Should have been a factory fit/option IMO.
no worries mate , it seems totally logical that it could be the top mounts.
I've looked it myself loads , had a couple of mechanics looks at it , I even took it to a 'french car specialist' who had it on a ramp , with and without turning plates who couldn't see anything wrong and said it was...
Top mounts were another fail , there was nothing really wrong with my old ones and new ones haven't sorted the problem. Another 50 quid down the drain.
Going away with work for most of the summer so will re attempt in september sometime. Next on list is to get rid of Pirtek PAS pipe , seems...
If anyone is interested changing the rack has not fixed the problem. What a waste of money .
Don't know what to try next, top mounts? All the ball joints etc seem fine.
^ funnily enough I took it to a garage who said it was the tyres scrubbing. I don't believe it personally though, I might if I was on slicks.
Anyway i'm getting my rack changed on wednesday , so will report back poorer and hopefully judder free on wednesday night!
I'd like to change my wheels (TD 1.2's) from black to silver.
What shade of silver is a good match for the original turinis? I was thinking Ford Strato or Moondust silver.
Can get a rack for anything up £80 , go to partsgateway.
In fact I bought one today for £57 from cit-ren.
It's cheaper than the pipe , and almost easier to fit, so I would consider that a result ;)
I am running a Pirtek pipe on my car , as is a friend (msisleman)
Take the ends into pirtek and get them to make up a new pipe. Best way is under the sump , approx 900-1000mm in length , but measure it up yourself
What would be a reasonable check , turn through 90 deg? It doesn't squeal or anything like it might if too loose.
Also the steering doesn't seem to get heavier during this juddering so not sure it's a fluid supply problem, but I will check tension.
Just got under the car and had a look , one of the rack mounting bolts was slightly loose. Tightened it up and now juddering seems to be worse.
I think it's new rack time
I have brand new tyres on the front. Sounds like yours went away though , mine is going nowhere :(
I might try and get a video , see if it's similar to what you had?
Alright lads
When I turn the wheel of my cup at standstill or very low speed (parking) I get a judder through the wheel. Doesn't happen any other time IE when moving.
Steering effort doesn't change so i don't think it's hydraulic, although my high pressure pipe is a pirtek job with bits...
I know there are few people on here running high pressure PAS hoses made by Pirtek etc myself included.
Is anyone else running one on a 172 cup? I have developed some steering related issues and wondering if the hose could be somehow related :S . My friend runs one on a 172 with no issues , but...
My box was doing this exact thing shortly before it blew - about two weeks after I got the car...a nice little fault that I managed not to spot on the test drive.
I would recommend you drain and refill your gearbox oil ASAP , as mine was very low on oil when it went.
