Have you been Sleeping every hour in game? If you sleep in game for any amount of time, it gives you extra XP for an hour IRL. Showering does the same for health too.

@Ay Ay Ron as @Willo40 has said, you need to upgrade before taking on Beat the Brat gigs. Past the first one, which is the guy that's a clone they ramp up in difficulty. High Body will help heaps. As for Missions and earning more, its very dependent on how you wanna play the game...
