Its a friend, he did it for a living for many years but retired about 15 years ago. He does odd bits from home for friends now to keep the boredom at bay, although now I think age (eighties) has taken its toll, hes deteriorated physically and I think maybe mentally recently. We've done business...
Another nasty surprise when I moved the car, found this on the floor.
Along with some gearbox oil. Got under it again.
Give me a goddamn break! Took the housing off, no easy task in the car
the secondary shaft nut has come off the back of the shaft and machined its way through the...
I fixed a few older cars starter issues like this by putting a relay in the circuit to the starter kick, so the key trips the relay and the relay activates the starter kick. Old wiring and old ignition switches. Might be worth a go before you pull the starter. Cost less than a tenner.
I could probably just about buy that if I sold the Clio V6, 220 Trophy and abandoned all hope of paying my mortgage off in my early 50's, and to be fair, I probably would go for it, but sadly there is absolutely zero chance I would fit in it :(
Looks absolutely barking mad, which is right up...
So an extra ball was found in the 5th gear detent ball and spring setup.
OK - fine. Box back in again
Quick selector rod refurb as the bushes were pretty crap
Connected up the minimum and tried it, slots into 5th. Win! - or so I thought. Rebuilt basically everything save putting the...
Chop the heads off the bolts, drop the subframe off, cut the bolt shafts down, then pull the remainder out the other side.
You'll need new bolts and nuts obvs.
The spoiler and boot trim would make me wonder if its had a replacement tailgate...
It hasnt had the RS16 spoiler, you have to chop the OE spoiler to fit the copy ones. The genuine ones come with the correctly shaped under-spoiler already.
I'm the same age, with a MK4 220 Trophy. Can't fault it, great car, excellent all rounder. I use it to go to the shops, fast road, track, and everything in between. Easy to maintain, reasonable costs. I can't see me parting with it at all.
Got it back AGAIN. Refitted it, 2.5 weeks after crushing the end off my finger in a log splitter (doh). It wasnt easy but I got it in.
Reverse - fine
1st gear - fine
2nd gear - fine (phew)
3rd gear - fine
4th gear - fine
5th gear - not fine :(
No 5th. Exact same symptoms as 2nd, just with...

Gave it a size up, made sure the bespoke clutch would fit. It did :)
Before I refitted the drivetrain I welded up some holes in the bulkhead left from an aftermarket AC install
I havent been updating but I have been working away on this.

Depends on your budget. Start with decent brake fluid, ATE Type 200 or RBF660, then high carbon discs and performance pads. Which pad will depend on budget and preference. That is good enough for most road use and will see you at under £400-ish.
If you track or use it very hard do the Brembo...
I used Plastics 4 Performance too, had a bespoke set made for my R21 - highly recommended. They do perspex as a cheaper option, that will discolour over time and damage easier as its an acrylic, I went for Makrolon which is a polycarbonate, which to the eye looks like glass - top quality stuff.
