Michelin told me they have been discontinued, and I failed to get hold of any a few months back.
I fitted Pilot Sport 3's but I wouldn't recommend them. Great performance in the wet but, don't do the steering any favors and make the car feel slow to respond in the dry.
l80ous,
Might be worth giving these guys a try: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/baldocks_wivelsfield/?_trksid=p4340.l2559
I think I talked to a chap called Nigel when I bought my 172 Renault exhaust off them, he did it a bit cheaper than his ebay price, which was already pretty good. Essentially...
Heya Phil and Stingray, the outer bolt is splined to the arm and would require a lot of force to get it out. It just means that you can undo it without having to get to the top, since there isn't really any access. I've not replaced it on mine either since it was in good nick. So I've only...
Don't know too much about how these are put together, but perhaps some of the loctite used for effectively permanently fixing sleves and such applied to the excentric section that goes through the knuckle. And/Or a set of spring washers between the face of the bolt/net and the coilover to help...
Bit of an Update for you all....
I've measured and lined up the new part I got from Unipart (Part No: GSJ4682) with the old joint which was original Renault and the Unipart component is around 3.5mm shorter from the outboard fixing centre to the ball joint centre!
I rang Renault West London...
Drill is certainly one way and it shouldn't pick up if you get the right size, but does seem a bit risky. An appropriate brush shouldn't be too tricky to find, but perhaps some emry wrapped around a pencil or such might be a little more controlled?
Hi Guys,
Hope everyone's had a good Christmas and enjoyed the wet weather antics available in their Clio's! The bold question is all I'm really asking the rest is just a rant so feel free to skip down.
I recently found a bit of play in the drivers side ball joint, so talked to renault, who...
Hi Kev,
Tried to send you a pm, because this opinion always gets me in trouble, but apparently your inbox is full.
There is indeed no key, so it is possible to get the timing off quite easily, but the job isn't only reserved for specialists, its more than doable by those with a good mechanical...
If its the little sensor just off the high pressure side of the pump that decides if you get a light on the dash or not I don't think it matters which way round they go buddy. (Don't have my car with me to get you a pic I'm afraid!)
Wow, some people really are idiots! The PAS bottles got a great big steering wheel moulded into it, lol, lets hope the damage hasn't already been done :(
Glad your getting somewhere with it though.
Hi Liam, with this being in one direction only, clearly your looking at a lot of friction in one direction and not the other (aka something hysteresis related). It could a very odd geometry issue, or a worn rubber component, such as a rack bushing. Unfortunately I'd disagree with 15 degrees not...
In my opinion I'm totally with Danny, I would get the belts done and not worry about the dephaser. It really shouldn't be an issue, I've seen plenty of 1*2's that have gone over 100k on the original part. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it shouldn't damage anything else when it goes either, so deal...
I understand Fred's far greater experience with these engines, but in my opinion (which I am not claiming is right! before I get abuse, it is only one man's view point) if the belt kit was done 3000 miles ago I wouldn't do the kit, but only the belt and cam seals. The bearings won't have done...
You definitely can't chuck on any, as has already been mentioned. Although the good news is that all the 172's (ph1 & 2) and 182's have the same rear beam, so any of those can be used.
Mine is quite tough and I can certainly see some people finding them a bit much to live with. But being a light car does mean that the springs aren't actually very stiff, so the ride is reasonable when its all standard.
But as above, making sure the car hasn't been modified is probably your...
Forgot to answer your first question, which is Yes Renault have reduced the rear brake effort over the 1*2's with ABS to ensure that the rears never lock first as this is considered unsafe on road cars, which it is. The other cars use the ABS system to avoid this, so they don't suffer from the...
I took the same page in for my MOT and they said they passed it under the special advisory, so I assume you must have a mechanic and possibly VOSA phone chap who aren't very well informed. Assuming that the rear brakes look sound upon inspection and therefore are working as they should.
What I...
Yeah I believe the kit is very expensive Tom, I didn't do the full kit though, just the belts, hence the much cheaper price.
(which I'm sure will get me in trouble with some on here but I tried to explain above my justification for that, and the full kit will be done when the mileage comes...
Its my 172 Cup, the belts on their own were about £14 for the cambelt and about £11 for the Aux I believe, certainly not much more. They were bought from Unipart a supplier I have used for many bits and altho I can't remember the belt manufacturer I did check that they are a company who supply...
Birchdown sounds to be thoroughly recommended and with a guarantee and a much better price than Renault it seems like a very good deal and would agree with everyones advice to go to those guys
Altho I would like to make 2 quick points:
1. I believe that a capable mechanic with a bit of...
From what I've found the cars were never tested sufficiently to gain legal certification, so it is illegal to tow with an RS Clio, however people do do it and I doubt the police would spot this, or really bother to inforce it.
It looks like the std kits for mk2 Clios would fit a 172, although...
I've got the same problem, I keep getting "error", the manual claims it should show "code" for a while, then offer the "0000" to enter the code.
So I enter the code and get a beep and "error" just comes up again, just like its the wrong code, although I've reset my radio code loads of times...
Lots of people are asking about Towbars and I've definately seen pictures on here of cars with them fitted !
Someone...........Anyone..............Please!
Hey All
I'm well aware that Renault Sport never signed off the cars for towing, however I'm also aware that people have fitted towbars to the RS cars.
So the question is, has anyone got a detachable towbar fitted on their clio?
If so:
Which One, is it any good?
Where did you get it from...
You'll love it mate, I'm sure
And I think the price isn't bad at all, as long as you like the mods he's done to it.
I've been keeping an eye out for those seats and I can tell you there not cheap ! lol
Have fun !
Don't know much about those pads I'm afriad but the coefficient of friction between 0 and 1 dictates the amount of braking force you get for a given pad force. The greater the number the bigger the braking force.
