    Oil leak

Yeah.....that's maxed out at the moment unfortunately!

    Oil leak

Finally got round to taking it to a Renault Specialist near me for a proper look, it's the camshaft oils seals that are leaking, which means as well as those being replaced a new cambelt and possibly tensioners/auxiliary belt etc. (I say possibly as these were all only changed in January!) Only...

    Oil leak

Think that's what the garage suggested actually, although it was over a week ago and I've been drinking since! Is this a big/costly job to fix?

    Oil leak

Sorry, realise I've been a bit slack with the information! It's a 2002 model 172, the oil had collected in the undertray and is definitely engine oil rather than gearbox oil/power steering fluid etc. Not had chance to definitely locate the leak as yet, but the amounts being relatively low so far...

    Oil leak

Has nobody had a problem with the seals or anything related then? I didn't think I was that unlucky!

    Oil leak

Looks like I have a (so far relatively minor) oil leak, think the seals may be on the way out. Is this the kind of thing when the seals then go all of a sudden, leaving me with a load of dropped oil and a seized engine? My 20 mile journey to work is mostly motorway, so high speeds etc. How...

    Air Con not particularly cold...

Sorry, misunderstanding on my part! I'm a bit of a mechanical r****d I'm afraid, what should the clutch sound like when it comes on? Basically there is no difference in noise if I switch from just the fans to Aircon, if I switch Aircon on from nothing then everything comes to life etc.

    Air Con not particularly cold...

Like I said though, when they re-gassed and checked the system they said there were no leaks which is what's puzzling me....

    Air Con not particularly cold...

How much would a compressor repair/replacement cost?

    Air Con not particularly cold...

....and just had it re-charged 2 weeks ago, with no leaks on the system either before you 'spot' the obvious! Bought my Phase 2 172 at back end of last summer, so didn't really use it and so not noticed until now. As stated, had it re-charged a few weeks ago when it went in for a service in...

    Something hanging down.....

It's sort of half in/half out, just looks unsightly. Don't have access to a ramp to remove it either unfortunately. Would it cause a problem to leave it there, or if I somehow reached under and pulled the lining out? Don't really want to have to go back to the garage if I can help it.....

    Something hanging down.....

....looks like it's coming from the plastic shield at the bottom of the engine. Looks like some kind of foam/insulation type thing. Thought I'd run over a bag or something but when using a pole to try and remove it found it was this! Any idea's what it could be, and whether I should just leave...

A weird one - indicators gone crazy!

No, the oil on your skin can leave a deposit which then heats up as the bulb heats and can cause it to crack or break. If you only caught it with your finger though can't imagine it would be a problem.

Not possible to just get it changed at a tyre fitters?

New Eibach Pro Springs - new dampers too?

Cheers for that, not wanting to change the dampers if I can help it - bit strapped for cash! But if I have to, then I will...

New Eibach Pro Springs - new dampers too?

I've just bought the above, and just wondered whether it would be worth changing the dampers at the same time as fitting the springs? It's an '02 172 with 58k on the clock. Just after people's opinions really, if they tend to go at 70k for example I may think about changing, if they last over...

    Trouble starting

In true Renault stylee the problem appears to have fixed itself and now have had no problems at all for the last week. One thing I have noticed though is the immobiliser light seems to stay on for slightly longer (about one second max.) than previously, just hope this isn't indicative of...

What petrol do you run your 1*2 on ??

Sainsbury's Super or shell V-Power. Get better mpg and more out of a tank than 95 Ron, not sure if there is much performance difference but engine certainly runs smoother with 97 + Ron.

    eibach pro springs for 172

I always thought the Pro's handled better but the Sports looked better?

    Sorn and no tax?

Will DEFINITELY need tax AND insurance, if you have a pre-arranged appointment at an MOT Testing Station and you are driving it DIRECTLY there then you will be fine.

Wet tyre recommendations for Mk2 dCi?

Depends what you're wanting to spend really. I've got Goodyear F1 Eagle's on mine and they are extremely good in the wet, although you do pay more than you do for budget tyres. Kumho are supposed to be a good relatively chaep tyre, but never used them myself so can't comment on these really I'm...

    Trouble starting

Cheers. I'm a bit of a buffoon when it comes to mechanics though and would rather get someone else to do it, along with a few other minor niggles the car has. Would it be better at a Renault specialist or would any back street garage be able to sort it out?

    Trouble starting

I have an '02 Clio 172 and in the last day or so it's developed a slightly puzzling problem when starting. Yesterday after work I got in and turned the key....nothing. Tried again a couple of times and it started. When I say nothing I mean that the ignition didn't fire, there was no sound of...

    Leaking headlight washer

Cheers for the guide Dr Rollo, will look at doing that if I decide not too bothered about it working and just want it to stop leaking. Matt Black: Would I still need to remove the entire bumper to replace the jets though?

Got one myself mate, had one in my previous car too and have always been well pleased with them.

    Leaking headlight washer

Looks like a fairly common fault by searching through the threads! Is there any other way of stopping/fixing the leak than buying a new unit and removing the bumper? Although annoying, I'm not sure if I can be bothered to go to all that hassle for something so minor. Call me lazy!

Insuring a car for a day..

As long as the car isn't already insured then you should be able to add it onto your policy for a day. If it is already insured then you'll need to be added onto that policy as an additional driver for the day.
