Well the original STi was basically a WRX, no upgraded engine mods or the likes, the 2 was upgraded and the 3 came with a close deck block (stronger engine).
10k should get you a good 2/3, the 4 was meant to be the best (in some peoples books) but i would look at these cars carefully as alot...
I do admit that i have never looked back after buying the scoob (except i want a newer one now as mine is nearly 3 yrs old) but if you can afford it then do buy one, if you cannot afford it then dont, buying one and not being able to run it is a sin itself.....
Tony
Oh who said STi?
No doubt the garage have said that the running costs are around the same as your clio (if they did they would be lying!) as you will need to take into consideration a few factors before even attempting to buy an Import STi.
First of all, the car only runs on SUL (super...
I acutally think that the old 16v renaults look more dated than the 306s, and having gone from one to another i can say they were different beasts completely.
Rich, as for the gti-6 engine being anyway different to the rallyes.... i dunno about that as ive seen rallyes that only push out...

LOL! ;)
The fact is that the 106 GTi doesnt have the gearing to make 145mph in the first place (even into the red) so its a bit of a joke (and 14.5mph out).
Tony
Hmm this is going off topic abit but ill add my part anyway.
Having come from a R19 16v to a 306 GTi-6 i can say that its one storming car, now between a 172 and a GTi6 i would say that there is nothing in it as you cannot really compare a 6 speed car against a 5 speed car (the GTi-6 is...
Will, if your going to rolling road your car then fit the original chip and run with that then change to the other chip afterwards (within 10 mins or so) as anything else wont be acceptable due to the conditions of the day (which is the only thing thats variable).

Hmmm i do really doubt that they can guarantee a 15bhp increase, maybe 5-7bhp and a few extra pounds of torque but its quite hard getting much more out of a N/A engine without better breathing mods/uprated cams etc.
What your probably feeling is the fact that your car now goes to 7k rpm, but...

Hmmmmm Rob, i like your picture of the clio cup on the other page but your car will be doing that with its ABS rather than a cup!
Alot of people are relying on tech here, ive driven off road vehicles in snow, through mud and water and there is one thing that gets you, simple things in absurd...
Jonto,
ive a classic shaped turbo with PPP and scoobymania downpipe (plus uprated alloys and brakes) running 15psi (263bhp and 243lbs of torque).
As for the PPP on the STi7 type UK, i wouldnt really go the way of ecutek on that, simply because the warranty is worth much more than a few...

Tom has it spot on, and as for the cup.... it will be better at stopping than the 172 on snow so there!
So as we have all been here before, lets talk about grip, and lack of it in snow and ice. You are not indestructable with ABS so dont think you are, you will actually be hindered with it in...

Jonto, your correct there mate!
What i will say to add to that though is that a Uk STi7 with PPP is an extremely quick car (ie it is actually rated quicker by .1 of a second to 100 than the E46 M3).
There are less transmission losses and the new STis have semi close decked blocks, a 6 speed...
