Whine from engine bay
The sound has got louder, it is more often now too. I am more swinging towards it being exhaust related as it is not a high pitched noise, it is quite resonant. How many miles does your 172 do to a tank?
I've had my 172 just over a month, and with standard work commute trundle (12miles, 40-60mph, no stop-start) and motorway cruise (80-85) I have got nothing better than 25mpg out of it (i.e ~270miles or less on a tank), once down to 23mpg. I've not driven it hard, and I'd been expecting 30+mpg...- inyourworld
