Any update on this bearne1 as i just carried out the exact same set up as you (including the shim removal and filing:D) and it is a total squeak fest!!
Very sorry to hear u have had such bad luck so soon.
There is a chap who will rebuild the box for u. Cant remember the name - do a search and i'm sure you'll find it easy enough. A few of the members on here were recommending him highly.
Hope that helps,
Dave
No worries mate. That is a real stroke of luck that you need the Cam and Aux belt done anyways. Whole job can be done at the same time - Nice one. Good luck with it
Have really enjoyed this thread - thanks a million for posting it and especially with all the photos. I think my Gearbox will need a rebuild soon - i wouldnt be too afraid of tackling it myself now having followed your post!
Lotus Club Ireland is the track day club i'm with.
We would normally have a couple of Caymans at each day. Last time out there was a special edition Cayman S, Porsche Design model (graphics, turbo wheels and other bits) and a normal Cayman S.
They are very capable around the track. Only...
Sounds like u got a billy bargain there tunst.
@Tom - You wont regret the Exige.
I had been using my series 2 Elise as a daily driver for 2 years and then got another baby so had to think of something more practical.
Picked up a reasonable 182 and been using it as a daily driver and the...
Top work - well done for taking it on yourself. Fraid i cant give u any advice except to say if your working on your own use the safest possible method as u dont want to get squished!!
I imagine that's a paint code unclebuncles.
Is it true that silver seatbelts were also part of the suspension Cup pack fitted to a 182??
very helpfull guide:).
Cheers,
Dave

Sound lads - really appreciate the replies - You're all putting my mind at ease no end!! Drove for 4 hrs last night - what a car - unreal!! My other car is a lotus Elise - the 182 is easily as good a front driver as the Elise is a rear driver - absolutely made up with this car - very glad I...
Think you're spot on there nigel. Just been driving it now the last day or 2 without thinking too much about it and it's been brilliant. Think i just needed to get back into the french vibe and drive the bloody thing:D
I can already see how u cant bear to be seperated from these cars. it's...
Standard wheels - just 5 days ago i bought a car very similar to yours - nice and clean - belts done - standard wheels refurbed - but to be honest i wouldnt have even looked at ur car with those wheels on (sorry don't mean to be harsh but it might help u sell it)
Sorry meant to mention - had the battery out this evening to look at the 4th (gearbox top) mount - it also seems perfect. looked again at the gearbox lower mount (the big huge chunky one) - its pretty squished looking, and its deffinately been there longer than the others (which all basically...
That's great guys thanks a mill - not convinced it's the dephaser pulley myself. Gonna keep at it to see if i can get her running a bit smoother but overall the car is smashing.
Had it up on the ramps last night and it's all very original and straight underneath. Bushes all good etc.
I...
Thanks a million guys:D - i appreciate the responses no end.
The needle is absolutely rock solid at circa 900 RPM which has me wondering if the idle is the culprit at all??
Had her up on the ramps last night - checked 3 of the 4 mounts - Dogbone seems ok - upper drivers side mount seems ok -...
Any thoughts lads? It's am expensive job to get done - would love any advice on whether guys on here think it might be the pulley or should I be thinking of anything else?? Cheers
dave
Because I don't know the car so well (only had it a few days now) it's hard to say exactly. Sounds noisy up top in the belt area - not tappetty - whirring kind of sound.
The tacho needle is rock solid at 900 rpm but the engine visibly rocks and shudders at idle. Once above 1,500 rpm the engine...
hi guys - my 182 runs rubbish at tick over very lumpy and juddery.
A local renault trained mechanic who is big into RS cars and drives a 172 himself reckons its's the variator (or dephaser) pulley that's causing the problem.
He seems like a very nice knowledgable guy. Just wanted to check...
Just seeing this now nigel - lol!! I think the stickers are class - wasn't sure about them till I saw them in the flesh - they work really well just as u intended and break up the silver paint a treat. I deffo wouldn't have considered a silver car if it wasn't for how imaculate u had the paint...
Hi guys, newbie here, just picked up my 182 yesterday (bought it off a top class bloke - ferret on here). She's an 04 with 82K on the clock - been well looked after but reckon she needs all new mounts as there is a big clunk when u change gear under power and a lot of wibble wobble on tickover...
