Did you get this sorted mate? I had exact same problem and turned out to be a bad earth.... Negative wire on battery connector corrdoded, wobble it and see if it helps.... if it does strip it back and recrimp, may be best to solder too and then sleeve it.

You should not need to chop anything.... The car has standard ISO plugs mate and most sterreos facilitate this. :)

I have an expensive Alpine sterreo with Ipod connection... its the full speed version if that makes sense. I didnt ever used the IPOD thingy as I have no IPOD lol... It is as good as new and hardly seen any use. PM ME if interested.

Why are you changing the box? Chances are it is the release bearing which you change when do a new clutch!! I might be totally wrong.... I am sure someone will correct me if I am!!;)

Got decent tools already. Fitting new clutch too hence the alignment tool, some dont bother centre alining the clutch but I cant be arsed fiddling around trying align the box and find clutch is not centred or am I looking too deep into this.....??? ;)
