UPDATE
I've sourced a cylinder head and I'm going to have the engine rebuilt with new head bolts, gaskets etc.
I've been quoted to £280 labour to have the top end rebuild, with me supplying all the parts.
So now it's parts time!
I went genuine parts with the clio last time, so I will do it...
Stripped it down. Head is pretty much dead. All the rocker arms are loose some of the holders have snapped or damaged. The exhaust valves are all bent, and the bore has slight scoring as a result. Block might be ok but wouldn't really know until you put it back together. Seems like a new engine...
Hello everyone,
I need some advice. I have a 172 that the Auxiliary belt snapped and took the cambelt with it. I am wanting to strip down the head and assess the damage and see if the engine can be salvaged. At the moment I've found the camshafts are damaged and I think are hydraulic lifters...
Plenty of room even when it's busy. Also know a fantastic road to hemsley. About 40min drive from Coulby Newham, but it's a fantastic drive once your out in the countryside.
Re: ***How much is my car worth?***
That's what I thought. Think i'll have it till one us doesn't work anymore then.
Out of interest, had it not been a CAT C, what would it of fetched?
Thanks,
Re: ***How much is my car worth?***
My beutiful car was crashed in late January this year and as result is now a CAT C. I fixed it and is faultless, but wonder what it would be worth if wanted to sell it. I expect to keep it as I wouldn't touch a CAT C so why would anyone else? I have a Ph2 02...
I'm 25 and bought my 172 last year in september. Prior to that I drove my bro's ph1 172 when I was 18-19 and loved it! Can't beliebe it took me this long to get one!
Insurance is crippling everyone at the moment. I thought my days of paying insurance over 1k were well over, but I was so wrong. that was one of the main reasons why i didn't claim on my insrance was the increase the premium was going to be. And with running two cars, it would of finished me...
I would recommend a 172, but just warn them that servicing and parts can be pricey. But I agree, for the price these cars go for now, you can't get better for less. Although my car has cost me allot of money. I still think I've got value for money. I love it!
Money was a bit onthe steep side, but your right it means so much more to me now than it did before. Think I would probably regretted it, if stripped it.
I went through this with the insurance, there argument was once an engineer has assessed the damage and given it a catergory it is marked on...
I saw this on Autotrader last night. Clio V6 signed by F1 Driver Alonso.

Had my car for a while now, and never started one of these threads before. But with my story, I thought I should. We'll start from the beginning,
Having gone through a few hot hatches and never making "The Bond" I went in search for a Clio 172. The initial plan was to get a PH1, but then I...
Sorry, didn't notice there was a page 2! LOL! Unfortunatley out of this one I'm afraid. Was attending the first meet of the year, when my brother decided to crash my car. Wasnt his fault like. Roads were just a sheet of ice!
