No car is perfect, but far too many 172 and 182s are unacceptable and the dealers arent prepared to make the customer happy. My Cup was terrible, and the dealers treated me like crap.
I rejected my £13,000 Cup and bought a £6,000 306 Rallye. The Rallye is not quite as quick, not quite as...
Mine was good to drive for the 3000 miles I had it, but the paintwork was sh*te and the bootlid was rusting. Backup from the dealer and Renault UK was terrible, considering Id bought a brand new £13,000 car.
I rejected it and got my money back.
The Cup is a great car to drive, but you have...
You dont have to allow the dealer the chance to rectify the fault before you reject it. If the problem(s) are bad enough (like they were with my Cup) you can reject it straight away.
I got a solicitor and rejected my Cup. Gave me great pleasure when I won :D
Lookers Stockport - no chance. Sold me my lemon of a Cup, then were useless at getting it fixed. Ended up getting a solicitor, rejected the car, and got my money back (after a lot of discussion). No attention to customer service at all. Completely incompetent.
Leave them well alone.
Yep. The slightest thing the insurers dont know about they can void your entire policy, even if its not directly related to the claim. Its all there in the small print.
Good luck, but I think Renault have the upper hand.
My other half had this dilemma with her Seicento Sporting Abarth recently. You should declare that it has a Cup spoiler/bonnet stripes/Cup handling pack but state that they are official Renault options, fitted by them. That way youve declared the exact spec of the car, but as theyre...
1. Engine mounts I think?
2. 4k rattle. Buy a cat-back sports exhaust :)
3. Sounds low to me - some sort of sensor problem?
4. Check the service guide. Dirty air filter would affect top end more than low down response. Could be linked to number 3.
5. Check the owners manual. Im...
The new T1-S has improved wet weather performance over the old Proxes. Dont know if those of you who say theyre crap in the wet have tried the new ones?
Personally, Im well happy with the T1-Ss (all round) on my Rallye. Great tyre and a decent price. Ill have to see how long they last...
Proxes are great in all weather IMO. Didnt have them on my Cup, but now running them on my 306 Rallye.
Worst tyres of all are the Pirelli P6000s that were fitted to my Rallye when I bought it. Hidiously bad - no grip in wet or dry and no confidence.
The Cup or the 172/182 arent special enough to be classics.
1) The MK1 Golf GTI started the whole hot hatch market. Quick engine in ordinary town car.
2) The 205 GTI gave the world the light chuckable handling that French hot hatches are now famous for.
3) The Williams was a superb...
Cup is probably the better drivers car in ideal situations, and if its been built properly (not always the case).
306 is the better all round car for everyday use.
Just to counter Rallye-Kings comments, Ive gone the other way (Cup to a 306 Rallye) and I prefer the sturdiness of the 306 over the Cup. It feels much more solid, even if its 5 years older.
I also diasgree with the comment that the Cup has more low down grunt. In standard form, the Cup only...
If youre after an everyday car, and only one car, then I wouldnt buy a Williams. It would require too much looking after to keep it mint.
Id go for something newer, such as the Cup, 172 or GTI-6. Theyre fairly easy to come buy and should suit you well.
The Rallye is definitely worth it...
I used to have a Cup, but the build quality was awful. I now have a 306 Rallye, and it feels much more solid. Pretty much as quick as the Cup, much rarer and sounds better :D
Depends what youre after, but if you can find a mint 205 1.9 GTI or 306 GTI-6 or Rallye youll have a whale of a...
Youll get nowhere trying to reject the car. Its 18 months old, so you will be deemed to have accepted it.
Do what you can to get a new tailgate, but you may have to accept a repair.
I would buy the Honda. Theyre probably not much better quality (the Type-R is built in the UK, not the Japanese factory) but I would imagine the Honda dealer backup is much better than Renault.
Honestly, theyre not as good as they should be. My £9500 Saxo VTR was better built than my £13,000 Clio Cup. If youre happy to live with rattles, squeaks, the odd water leak, paintwork problems and mechanical issues then fine. I dont think you should have these problems on a new car, period...
You dont have to give the dealer the opportunity to rectify the faults. I was not willing to accept a repair.
Unfortunately they dont have to notify you of any repairs to the car before you collect it. I think it should be a requirement, but there is no legal obligation for them to do so...
Stu,
Have PMd you again. Try a different solicitor, contact Watchdog/Auto Express etc and above all DONT GIVE UP! You CAN win, as I did. I had the acceptable tolerance garbage thrown at me too :@ Renault UK will not want to know, and will do nothing. You need to fight against the...
