Wasn’t sure where to post this… anyone have experience working on the f**king shitshow that is the N54 cooling system?
My Alpina B3S had a slight leak from the waterpump. No surprise there. At 140k miles I decided to replace as many hoses as I could, and the expansion tank. All good. Got the...
Thanks- yeah they organised a replacement when they saw the picture, just a shame to trash it! I was getting itchy because there are none in stock and my patience is wearing thin to get the work all done! Cheers.
I received this Nissans rad- bashed up by DPD. I filled it with water and it didn’t leak- but unpressurised of course. The tubes themselves look like they must have been bent- so is it an absolute no go? I don’t want to fit it and then find it’s bad? Are they really fragile?
Between weather, kids, rust, surprise old bodges and general stuff, things much less impressive than what you’re doing always take me 3 x the imagined time. Usually that means into a second or third day for me. What a pain in the arse! Good luck next time.
Yeah, it quite quickly becomes that, doesn’t it. I’m working on two other cars at the same time so it may be this for now and then a refurbed subframe, wishbones etc etc in a year or two.
Basically that. I’m about to put fresh cup dampers on my 172 Cup, cooksport springs and both driveshafts. What else is an obvious job/change to do on a weary Cup while these bits are being done?
Will change the gearbox oil, obvs. Any bushes? Thanks.
Amazingly, my rad top brackets are fully functional, so just waiting on a load of parts to arrive now for the extended cooling/ac/panel refresh. So I messed around with the seat side mounts instead:
Thanks.
Decided I’m going to change the rad, coolant expansion tank and hoses while I’m at it… how bad is that and do I need extra little bits that I don’t know about (have hi grip clamps)- like bolts and parts that might be rusted or are needed to complete the job? Those are the things that...
Slowly getting through some jobs and identifying more to do…
The big one (for me) is changing the ac condenser, wings and bumper. I have the condenser and drier, some ac seals- am I going to need anything else? My rad has some damage at the top where it looks like the bolts from the old...
Looking good.
Do you have a plan for the exhaust heat shields? I need to source them too, wondering if there’s a cliosport solution or just a case of finding and refurbing old ones?
Great move if you can visit Corbeau. It’s a fiddly job but totally worth it.

Another job that was a pain in the arse but I like it and it’s the one change the Ragnotti had that we didn’t get on the Cup.
Funny that this is the second time my car has had Sparcos in it. Found a thread where @ChrisP_182 owned it back when I had my first Cup.
Whatever happened to it since that time, it was not very loved. That gives me drive to make it good again.
This is how I work on my cars: identify that something needs doing, research the s**t out of it reading how to guides, watching videos, even looking at a Haines manual, then order the parts, put the work off for a bit, finally convince myself it is as simple as the guides say, remind myself "all...
I managed the job that didn't need doing today- new coilpack and leads, why not? Maybe the answer to that is that I think i managed to compress a lead under the inlet and I'm worried that there might be a specific way to lay out the leads under it that I don't know about? The front 5 bolts on...
One of many more questions to follow- a cracking sound on opening the door- which bit of the mechanism does that suggest is past it? Note this was a cracking sound in the car door, not in me, for once.
In short I just want to be able to read codes, diagnose things effectively, and switch off airbag lights etc- something that has some effective power but isn’t too expensive. Any recommendations? Have looked at foxwell NT604, is there a Clip setup that is straightforward to use?
Or anyone near...
