hey i had a ph1 clio before and had the same problem and at traffic lights it would do the same go to die and rescue itself just, but i found that my problem was the spark plugs were badly burnt but just renewed the plugs and sorted the problem for me.
you can adjust your catch on the back panel slightly and that can move the tailgate across, if that fails adjust the bolts on the tailgate itself or the bolts on the hinges that might be accessed under the headcloth.
