So been a while but here are some recent pics So glad I removed the auxiliary fuel tank as would never have seen the full extent of the rust in there! Starting to cut it out. Found some solid metal, but Road grime and masses of old mud has got up inside and rotted it from the...

Some updates from the last few weeks. Nothing torqued down yet so no sealant added as yet.

Wondering if anyone can help? I managed to break one of the piston cooling jets. Anyone have any at all? Seem to be virtually impossible to source! If the bolt can be included that would be ideal as that seems to have gone missing as well

So starting to prep the block ready for the rebuild. Also cleaned surface rust of the front cross member and primed it. Just getting some practice in for the more complicated parts.

    Clio Williams Project

Hi guys, Thanks for the comments! So the block was acid dipped and then caustic treated. Considering the state of it before hand it looks like a new block. I don’t know exactly how the caustic side works but it apparently helps with rust removal. Also helps the prep to paint the block. It...

Well it has been a while and the bottom end of the engine has been away being cleaned and bored. It looks so much better now. Had the crank cleaned up and polished as well. Also new pistons purchased due to the state of the old ones and the reboring. Just...

So engine basically fully stripped down. Can now see why it was ceased! Going to send the block off for cleaning, in the hope all the corrosion in that bore can be removed then assess the what next!

Strip down of the engine started. Not liking the state of the water pump nor thermostat housing! This is not looking to great. Thermostat housing. I am a tad messy! Also not sure if this looks right. The step down between the tappets. Cannot find a picture of a head...

So been a few weeks but today was the day the engine finally came out! The gearbox was not the easiest thing to remove due to 2 annoying nuts underneath, but got there in the end! And then mounted on the new toy! Strip down of the engine to start next weekend! Plus will need...

So been looking at tidying the loom I brought home. Looks like Stuart Little was peckish. Started to retake clean it up. Also gave me a chance to cut out the knawed parts and solder in new pieces. Still a fair amount to do. Excuse the mess I am a slob. Also removed all connections...

    Clio Williams Project

So small update today as was fighting bolts again. Got the ancillary loom out of the engine this weekend and will be testing continuity and giving it a tidy up. Removed the fuses and there is a little corrosion so need to clean this. Also removed a little more metal but forgot to get pics...

It’s fine. I want to remove it to go through the cabling as it is shocking. Can tell it’s gone through various hands as it has been cut into for various fixes over the years. Want to tidy it up as well.

    Clio Williams Project

Pretty dull update this evening. Due to having to drill out rounded and sheered bolts. Wiring loom is pretty much off the engine. Just two more connectors, 1 being the lambda I think and the second is at the front below the inlet manifold. Cannot get my fat fingers in there. Other than that...

Not taken the belts off so May look at that as the alternator does look pretty bad. Shall see how things look this weekend but the next step will no doubt be removing the rocker to investigate further.

    Clio Williams Project

That is something I am still contemplating. I initially wanted to go fully stock. But I am currently thinking of a gentle OEM plus, considering the brakes currently fitted etc… I don’t want to really do anything with the engine, just get it running nicely. It had stood a while so ATF down into...

Last few Rear bumper was a pig to remove. Ended up having to cut through the bolt on the right to finally remove. Looks to be a little work to do behind there Also should really stop poking the sills. They are really bad on the near side!! Hoping this weekend we can ensure the engine...

    Clio Williams Project

Few pictures from the weekend just gone. Looks like Stuart little was evicted! Only a few more connections into the block. Big issue we have found is we have been unable to turn the engine over by hand. We have poured some lubing concoction into the cylinders to see if we can free it...

Small update today as had a busy weekend so not much chance to work on the car. Radiator removed and removing all electrical connectors in preparation for engine removal.

    Clio Williams Project

So the tear down has begun fully today. 2 days of stripping out the interior and pulling the front end off. All this in preparation for removing the engine next weekend! And then a very large pile of bits It does now look a tad sorry for itself but least I can start to see more of...

So first stumbling block, cannot locate the immobiliser anywhere. Dash is in bits but it is an elusive little bugger! All dash lights come on and can hear relays clicking but nothing. So put the battery straight onto the starter motor, which does turn it but does not engage so we have a duff...

    Clio Williams Project

So I have been thinking about this most of the day, and contemplating going down an OEM plus route. Taking gez 172s comments on board. I am never selling the car so value does not bother me in the slightest. Although if s**t ever hits the fan in the future it may come in handy. I am a fair way...

Safely landed in its new home! 400 miles and a lot of different weather it has finally arrived! Now the hard work of trying to get it moving. Then I will start to get the rot cut out! Also anyone have any idea on the brakes this has on it? Bloody big callipers in there. Will be swapping...

So having driven a 400 mile round trip I have to quote a quite prominent YouTuber “my brand new second hand” rear quarter! Going to be fun cutting this up an stitching it in!

    Clio Williams Project

Yeah! I had been looking at it for a long time! I certainly did not pay the asking price for it. Picking up a passenger rear quarter on Sunday! 4 hour drive from Wiltshire to Liverpool so that will be fun! Today new Cambelt kit and water pump delivered! Pick the car up next Sunday. So...
