in tank fuel pump

Just lost my fuel pump tonight. Have 12 volts to pump and fuel gauge but even the hammer trick was only good for 20 mins. AA tow home confirms pump as u/s. Europarts do a new unit for £155 but can I break out the fuel pump and replace that on its own. There are some units on Ebay at £30 but...
