1.2 Comparisons...

Just wondering how a 1.2 16v Clio compares in acceleration to other cars of its type.

Like a 1.2 16v Corsa / Punto / Polo / 1.3 KA??

pretty much up there, Id say, think the corsa slightly nipper to 60, but think its lighter.

The Punto is quicker than the 1.2 16v, that much I know for sure. Dont know about the rest, but I thought the Clio 1.2 was quicker than the Corsa. The Renault engine is in fact 1149cc, so is strictly speaking a 1.1. Not sure why they called it a 1.2 ....

my bros got a 1.3 starlet and thats a lot quicker. it know its a 1.3 but the increase in acceleration is a lot more than the increase in cc. 100cc is nowt.

Ive never had a blast with a Punto, used to own an 8v one and was slower. Had a go against my mates KA and I was faster in all, same goes for a 1.4 8v Saxo. Didnt know about Polo / Punto / Corsa though.

My Girlfriend has a 1.2 16v Dynamique and my mates wife has a 1.2 16v Punto. We have had loads of races between the two and the Punto is quicker in a straight line, but the Clio does claw the gap back if the straight is long enough!!

The little clio wins in the handling stakes though.

75bhp from a 1.1 is quite good. Its very good on fuel too, I used to get 56mpg average over a whole tank out of mine. I guess they call it a 1.2 for marketing reasons which just goes to show how shallow your averge late-teens car buyer is.

Safety levels are also pretty good for such an old design so its not as light as a Saxo and pays the price in performance terms.

Insurance is cheap though.

The Punto is quicker but a lot more expensive to buy and insure.
