1.2 Throttle body???

How the hell do you get to the throttle body on the 1.2 16v engine (2002)?

I can get to the air filter and box, but can't see where/how to remove it.

Any pics would be excellent :approve:

seem the big lump of plastic on top of the engine (ie the entire inlet manifold)

you have to remove the entire thing

Cheers guys....why is the 172 engine a piece of cake to get to the throttle body, but the 1.2s aren't!

Bugger, looks like I'm gonna have to make it into quite a job!

Just crappy design.

They revised this in the 1.2 16v 2004+ models when the engine got revised and throttle body moved to a better location.


Assume its faulty, or very dirty hence you wanting to clean it?

My old one has a paper clip wedged in it from the factory!! and was filthy as anything....

The car keeps going into a stuttering mode and sometimes cuts out with the emissions light coming on. Want to stop this from happening, so having read in a few places that the TB may need cleaning or the coil pack needs checking/replacing...thought it would be easy to get to (like the Cup's is!) got the airbox and couldn't see where it actually was, so thought I'd best check on here before messing too much. It did it once on Motorway just as I was coming to a stop at the junction. Gotta get it sorted by fair means or foul...might have to buy the haynes manual!

Yup!! Probably a french one, seeing as it had not been opened from new...

Wasnt obstructing anything, but was lodged against the TB and Plenhum.
No idea why it was there, maybe used as a marking point then forgot about.
