1*2's What is the best way

  ITB BG 182
Ok so what is the best way to get good MPG on the car when your not tanking it?
Ive herd people say do 30 in 5th gear and some say keep it between 2 and 3 thousdand revs.

  03 clio 1.2 16v
drive mine like a t**t and and still get 35mpg so dont worry about it

or get on the m6 and keep driving in 5th till the tank runs out

  a green 1
not overly accurate anyway the mpg comp, id say average is about 28-30mpg thats with giving it some every now and again

  Whichever has fuel
The way i see it, the further you push the accelerator down, the more fuel you use.

So just drive gentle.

Firstly yours is a 1.2 and secondly if it's a 16v actually driving it like a t**t they arent much better on MPG than an RS just ask Fred ;)

100k on the clock and still sounds sweet i had a bran new 1.6 astra and burnt the cluch out 3 times my baby just dont want to die she loves me lol and i love her :approve:

  a thirsty one
going back to john182rs question about 1*2 and mpg best way is change gear early but there is a balance between revs and speed, i would guess upto 3 - 3.5k for normal driving with the 2.0 litre just be gentle with the throttle and keep it 65-70 ish on the motorway.

in reality to save on mpg its about looking ahead and anticipating events, but to be honest if you have a 1*2 the cost diff between just relaxing and enjoying driving from a-b and trying to drive from a-b as carefully as possible is only going to cost 2 or 3 £ max per full tank of fuel.

correct tyre pressures
no unnecessary weight on board
no unnecessary braking
no unnecessary accelerating
just go as smooth as you can

  E87 118d M Sport
low revs
dont be in too high a gear for the speed (to reduce strain on the engine)
dont speed
+ above

not accelerating harsh is the best way to get better mpg, even croozing at 80-90mph on the motorway their not bad on fuel but drive about like a tit flooring it everywhere and they drink! i only get about 20 miles less to a tank than i got with my 1.2 16v in all fairness though!

Buy a diesel...

Or, check your tyre pressure once a week this contributes to quite a sever loss in economy. Driving with the window down at speeds aboe 27mph will create a drag and make for a parchute effect thus making poorer economy.

Take any unnecessary laden weight put of the boot that might be adding weight to the car.

Dont fill te car up to the gunnels of petrol unles your travelling any great distance. This will also just add un needed weight and make poorer economy.

Drive at 56mph on the motor way if your in no great hurry, i believe this is the speed that will optomise your fuiel economy

just keep it smooth, and remember every time you slow down you use a load of fuel to get you back upto speed, so try to drive with that in mind

thats not an excuse to do every roundabout at 60mph either ;)
