182 Engine in a 172

Hi Guys,

I have a Ph2 172 that unfortunately blew its engine recently and am looking to put a 182 engine in place of the old 172 engine. However, i want the standard 172 exhaust to remain but will a 182 engine connect up to a 172 exhaust. I know that you have to change the exhaust manifold but is there anything else that i should be aware of whilst doing this conversion? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

not really conversion, engine is the same, just rip old engine out and pop new one in, everything off old engine should bolt up including exhaust manifold etc

if you want to use the 182 exhaust manifold you need a link pipe to the 172 exhaust system, think ktec sell them

Doesn't that mean that ill have to decat the exhaust?

Ok well thankyou for your help i will continue to look for a way around decatting the exhaust as i still want to pass my M.O.T

Just use your standard exhaust manifold and cat and bolt it to the back of the new engine?

No need to touch the exhaust system at all

cam cover and upper inlet are different. you got the 182 inlet?

Ok well thankyou for your help i will continue to look for a way around decatting the exhaust as i still want to pass my M.O.T

K Tec do also sell a cat for a 182 manifold on a 172, need a new mortgage for it mind, somewhere around £330 from memory
