205/55 winter tyres

  Clio 182
I'm looking at getting a set of winters and as far as I can find there's more choice in this size. Anyone ever run 55 aspect ratio tyres?

On what wheels ? The 182's 16"'s I assume ?!

Yeah the standard 16s. In fact the Hankook ones like in your pic are one of the ones I was looking at. Had any issues with them?

Nope.

They've been very well behaved sitting in my garage waiting for the cold stuff to arrive :rasp:

They look the business though... They'll be going on in a weekend or two I think. Too warm at the moment, no point.

Think I paid ~£67 a corner from Black Circles.

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Thinking of some for Golf as winter approaches. Decent price that. Was there ever any clarification about insurance, and having these on ??

Last year a lot of insurance companies were charging more if winter wheels were fitted, as they counted them as a modification. There was a big hooha about it. This year, most seem to have accepted that they are not a modification, as long as you use the manufacturers recommended size. You should still inform them however. That's all according to the article I read.

FLOL .. charging more to potentially save an expensive crash ?

Brilliant.

Why would you even tell your insurance company that ?! Not many cars have the same brand/model tyre put on time and time again to match the factory specs. No one tells them about that do they ?!

I think informing them only applies if you change the wheels as well as the tyres.

They are very fat indeed. So much so that they rub the arches on the rear of my 182.

So it's having the old tyres put back on tomorrow.

Lesson learned: stick to the recommended tyre sizes.
