36k DC2...

  DC2 TypeR / E36 328i
Yo

Thought I'd repost this over hear to get the CS opinion...

Going back to THIS thread, I was pretty happy to know that it was in fact a local friend who ended up buying a very low mileage DC2.

The car is mint, I have not seen another DC2 like it. There is not a fraction of sag in the Recaros, the engine does not use an ounce of oil, and it is completely standard bar a cheeky lift of the airbox cover.

I went out in it on Saturday night to get some pictures.

First location was an underground car park, which even though we paid to get in, we were asked to leave after getting only a couple of pics. The security guard was interesting, "nice car though mate, VTEC innit?" Yes mate, it is.

It could perhaps do with a good detail, maybe Rich would like me to spend a day buffing the paint? 8)

Nice car, the recaro looks f*cked though and the paint looks horrendous.

Nice pictures too.

Amazing cars...

...In 1999. No doubt they still give a massive buzz from behind the wheel but they've not aged well have they!

Really? Have you seen many Dc2s? :S

Horrendous paintwork, shagged drivers Recaro and a half assed clean of the rocker cover doesn't really make a car mint. If I didn't know it was on 36k miles I'd have guessed it was 120k ish.

I dread to think what he paid for that! They go on forever if you look after them.
I've recently bought one much like this, albeit an X-plate with a higher mileage. Completely original, well undersealed so not much in the way of rust (yet).
I prefer them in black.
As for looks, they actually look better in the metal, they're like a baby NSX.
Incredible car, pure drivers machine, very organic, what you put in is what you get out.
It's the best car I've owned and better than my immaculate Trophy I had a while back (a fair bit better if I'm honest).

Weird that he has a nice car but doesn't care about paintwork. Very confusdeded!

Oh, and as for the Recaros, it is VERY difficult to prevent wear to the right side driver's bolsters as they are huge.
They get scuffed getting in and out however hard you try to avoid it.
I actually hold the roof and then lift myself over the bolsters!

I actually quite like this style DC2. I'm not hugely fussed about it being slightly ropey aesthetically because I'm sure it still drives well.

IIRC @Chip-mk1 had one.

The one in the OP must be clocked.

Or used for a hell of a lot of short journeys, that drivers seat has had it.

Mind you if its that fat bloke in the pictures who owns it, its probably under quite a lot of friction each time he gets in and out?

A nice seat cover saves a lot of wear I found. In the Frp you slid into the seat when the cover was on. Much better.

You should see my misses climb into the RR. she scrapes along it, has zips etc on the back.. I'd be fuming if it was a new one.

I am not a vtec yo man although I respect their engineering greatness.
For me is fast enough without needing 19 inch wheels std and 300 bhp at the front wheels.
I much prefer 160-200 bhp with nice suspension design- set up, a close ratio gearbox and 900kg to go up and down the mountains than an artificial flying brick.
Yo

Chip your's is a bit p**n lol.

Vtec engines are awesome technology without a doubt, im a huge fan of them, not just the vtec system but the standard of the rest of the components on an ITR engine, the valve train with solid lifters, the quality of the materials used etc.

900kg though? Thats a big ask from a DC2!

LSD as standard though is another great feature :)

Yeah I wish I still had it.

My subaru has done 115k and in better condition than that.

OP's write up promised so much more. :(

My favourite of my current cars is exactly the sort of thing you are on about to be honest mate so Im sure we are of similar mindset, stripped mk1 clio with not too much weight and about 180bhp and an LSD.

Yours must have sounded brutal Chip, they bark quite a bit with just a filter on but with ITBs I can only imagine what it was like lol.

Really can't get on with the front end of the UKDM, much prefer the JDM front ends.
