Renaultsport Clio guide (the relavent bit for you is cup packs. The only thing r.e. cup packs that this guide does not tell you is that the 54mm (?) spacing on the "cup packed" shock absorbers mean there is very very little aftermarket choice, so if you intend on getting coil-overs get one without the cup suspension pack) http://www.cliosport.net/content/guides/Renault Sport Clio Guide.pdf

Not a massive amount of RS Clio 182 specific stuff to check:

  • Look at all the normal things - fluid levels, tire tread, service history, lights on dash go out, invoices to give you an idea of whether it's been cared for or not.
  • The only RS specific thing is the cambelt really (and prefferably auxilary belt) at 72,000 or 5 years WITH AN INVOICE. If this hasn't been done either knock £500 off the price (cheapest that I know of is k-tec racing in the new forest, £430 ish including parts IIRC but most places are £500) or walk away, your choice.
  • Rear shock absorbers leak on a fair few cars (these are either £100 each or £100 for a pair from renault, I can't remember! Either way not a massive expense but it's a potential bargaining tool)
  • The constant velocity (CV) boot on the drive shafts also splits and leaks.
  • Finally the standard exhausts are s*** regarding corrosion resistance so check the condition of that (If you're lucky this will already have been replaced with a stainless steel one. If not budget a minimum of £330 for a new one when the existing one dies)
  • Oh and if it has them, the xenon washers probably don't work.

The only easily-visible VIN number is at the bottom of the wind shield, passenger side. Took me aggeeesssss to find this
