After a bit of advice

  Astra VXR Nurburgrin
Hello,

Don't have a Clio and am looking for a bit of advice as don't know much about them

Have been on a few track days with my current car and would love to have a dedicated track car and time attack car. In currently doing my HGV license so will be able to buy a cheap transporter to take it around places.

All mechanical work I will do myself (except for specialist jobs like paintwork etc). Have rebuilt engines in the past and cars. My daily car is an Astra VXR Nurburgring Edition but don't want to race that :).

My plan is to get a normal Clio that is dirt cheap, get it down to the bare shell and build it up with a 172 or 182 engine, running gear etc. All suspension, brakes, interior would be far from the standard set up anyway.

I know many of you will just say buy a Clio sport but I like the trill of building it up myself from nothing knowing that I've built it.

Any tips on what to look out for or what would be best?

to be honest as much as you have said you want to buy a non rs and build one you really need to have a full car to convert it so you woukd need to buy a non rs and an rs and do the swap, then you would have your track car in the weaker shell with a sunroof.

This reminds me of 106 rallye owners gushing about how much lighter they are than gti's........when its just the same stuff taken out of it as you can to do a gti. I agree. Just get a 172. Sunroofed cars are a pain in the ass!!

When you can get a 172 for £800 what's the point of buying a 1.2 and converting everything?

I hear you. buy a broken 1*2 and rebuild it to factory condition  maybe get one with a blown engine so you can rebuild it with forged pistons etc.
