Amp trouble..

  S13
Hi,

I'm having trouble with my amp, it doesn't seem to want to power on at all. I was just wondering does it actually need to be fully plugged into the remote on switch on the headunit to turn on? Reason for this question is that I've run the power cable from the battery to the boot and just to test it today I plugged it and it doesn't work (it is grounded correctly and it has a little green light on it that shows if it's on or not which doesn't light up) I only bought this amp to replace one which I assumed was broken which has been hooked up completely. What am I doing wrong? I can't seem to find any fault in the wiring.. What generally needs to plugged into an amp for it to operate even if it doesn't put any sound out or whatever?

Cheers,

Rob.

you need the remote cable installed to tell the amp to turn on, the power cable and the earth cable and that is it, obviosuly is you want sound you need to plug in the RCA cables and whatnot.

My understanding of the setup was that the amp would be on all the time without the remote cable, the remote cable just tells it to turn off when the ignition goes off. Someone clarify? Cheers for the response though..

The remote cable tell the amp to turn on, which stops the amp draining the battery when the stereo is off. So basically you need some sort of cable remote cable for it to work.

Right ho.. another day of trying to get the stereo back in the hole after a 30 second wire hook up job.. the amount of wires on the back of it makes it difficult to get in right.. Cheers anyway.

push the cables down, behind the heater controls as opposed to back behind the head unit.

Yeah there is quite a bit of space down to the left and right. You need to push as many of the cables down there as neatly as possible. Only leave the ones that need to actually go into the back of the HU sticking out. Then you carefully push it in trying to push the spare cables to the side. Its tricky but if you have the time/patience you will get there...eventually.
