Annoyed!

Bought my clio 172 ph2 on 29th December for my birthday and had nothing but problems with it. Car looked good on paper...........53 plate, monaco blue, 24k, full dealer history and 1 owner from new.

I bought it from a company in leeds - not a renault dealer but a big car company all the same and they through in a months warranty for me which was nice.

Had the car for about 3 days and it kept stalling on approach to roundabouts - I just dipped the clutch but the revs just fell and it stalled - annoying but not the end of the world so decided to take it back. While on route to the garage the car appeared to jolt when I was accelerating. I thought what the chuff was that and a couple of mins later the car went into limp mode and I had to switch it off and on and limp to the garage.

I told the garage and they had a look so went home. They rang later and said "someone must have been tampering with the throttle before, we have put the part back on and the car is running fine". So I went back over to Leeds and picked the car up and drove home with no problems. Drove for another 2 days and low and behold the same jolt happens and the car go's into limp mode. This time more warning lights come on and the revs start going crazy! Going from between 2000 and 3000 rpm - so I limp back home and take it back to the garage again. I keep calm and say to them to keep the car for as long as they need and that I just want it fixed properly.

3 days later they phone and tell me its ready. I go and pick it up and they say it was a problem with one of the throttle bodies and its now been replaced so I drive home. Drive the car for another 6 days and then exactly the same thing happens!

I'm normally quite patient but when I took the car back for the third time I was slightly annoyed. The guy said "it must be some kinda intermittent fault, we'll have a look at it again for you". I told the guy I wasnt happy and he said he wasnt happy spending the money on parts so I told him that was his problem!

No apology, no offer or courtesy car, no offer off compensation for all the train tickets i've had to buy. I asked him to extend the warranty for another couple of months and he basically told me to f off!

Anyone know what the problem might be or any tips for how I might get somthing out of the dealer like a touch more warranty?!? Never had a problem with my previous two clio sports but im starting to think this one is cursed!!!

Cheers for reading.

I've no idea, fault with the PCB for the ECU, sensor of some description.....?.

Next time your there mention Trading Standards if the fault isn't corrected.

I'm suprised no one has answered your thread so far.:S

Edde may be able to help.

needs to go onto the renault clip computer, the garage could spend a lot of time and money trying to find the problem, saves f**king about

dont u get 3 months warranty as std as in its the law when u buy a car from a dealer ?

  Shhh
Ring trading standards, ask them where you stand.

Then go from there, i would not contact the garage until you have spoken to them. Also, if it fails to run, contact the AA, they can plug the computer into the socket below the ashtray and tell you whats wrong with it.

On the 1.2 16v versions, the limp mode was a common problem with the crank sensor going tits..

1. Contact Trading Standards (ask about rejecting the car)
2. Contact the garage (ask them to collect it, repair it & deliver it back)
3. Post up here

They are sending the car to Renault next week so will see what happens after that.

Its a good job I dont need a car for work!

The car only came with one months warranty but they have agreed to put another month on from when I get the car back. I normally get somewhere with people when I get annoyed but this guy at the garage was having none of it!

Did the garage you took it too not check ehaust emissions or oxygen sensor voltage/response ? where did they get their throttle body conclusion from ?
Did they run a diagnostic on it ?

It went to renault in Leeds and seems to be sorted now - they had it on their diagnostic and did some tinkering and seems to be ok.

Easy to say, but in reality when you 'Find the one' the smaller details become even smaller.

Good luck with it all though.

Your my hero.

Dont get in a tissy mate thats sound advice i gave u there no matter how much u like a car if ur paying out big wonga u need to know ur covered 4 as long as pos.

I don't think its advice when the car has already been purchased?

Advice would be "Next time you buy a car, I ADVISE you buy it with some warranty."

But thanks for trying to help me with my problem ;)

im a car salesman myself and the legal limit is a one month warrenty thats all we have to give, an extended warrenty is def worth the money! my 172 did exactly the same it was the ecu.

Might want to look at getting AA breakdown and repair cover if you only have 2 months. Only cost £65 ontop of any normal cover they do.
http://www.theaa.com/services/breakdowncover/option_table.jsp (near the bottom) I got it when I got mine and within a month of having it the radiator went and they covered that for me, it would have been a £350 bill:D
