another tomtom question

  none :(
sorry to be a jackass but not too clued up on things like these.

just wondered with the tomtom is it a case of turming it on and leave it mounted or does it have to be plugged into the lighter or anywhere like that

TomTom go literally just turn on and go. My TomTom (pocket pc, v5) which runs on a PDA needs to be plugged in when its charging/recieving a signal as the gps receiver is powered directly from the lighter socket.

however if the pda gets too flat the gps dont run :(

has to be plugged into the lighter to run, unless the battery is charged then it will last a couple of hours on its own.

mine lasts 2 hrs on its battery (tomtom one) i only use power adaptor for charging as the wire looks crap

^^ ditto. I have a tomtom-one that I bought 2 days ago and its fine for 2-2.5hrs on the battery which is enough for me most of the time. I think the Tomtom-GO's have a longer battery life tho. I went for the One as, amongst other reasons, it has newer circuitry (which will be used in the whole of the new range due out in May) which gives better satellite tracking, apparently. Especially important in Clios with the shielded (athermal?) screens which block the signal a bit and the tom tom Go's have older circuitry which really needs the external ariel to get a good signal in cars with athermal screens. I tried a Go and a One (both without ext. ariel) the other day in my car and for me the One deffo got a strong (4/5 or 5/5) signal but the Go's signal was non-existant most of the time.

I have a go 700 which I use in my clio and it works fine I dont have a signal problem at all! i am very impressed with the tomtom system i have used other nav systems and the tomtom is by a good length much better hell the wife even knows how to use it!

I had the same results as Breeze. The TT700 was very patchy when used in my 172 whereas the TT One with the superior SirfIII Chipset had no problems at all. The new models will be released shortly to bring the GO range inline with the TT One.
