Anyone Know Owt About Laptops? Buying One ASAP

Right, i'll be buying my 1st ever laptop pretty soon and i don't know what to get.

First off my budget is pretty low for a laptop £400ish, i know thats not really alot.

I basically would like a system that can play dvds/cds, access the internet wirelessly and be able to handle Photoshop/photos and thats about it really! nothing too fancy to play the latest games etc.

I've looked at these below, what you guys think??

Dell Inspiron 1300

Anyone tell me which is best? or recommend one of there own.

Cheers.

I know that the Celeron chip is a very slow chip, and will struggle to handle ALOT of photshop work, however the 512meg ram will help.

The Sempron is the same as the Celeron i believe, in that it is a budget chip, although I have little experience of this chipset.

The P4 is probably going to handle photshop easiest, but doesnt have a large amount of RAM.

In my opinion, youd be better spending 400£ on a better spec'd desktop machine, than a very low end laptop, for what you need it for.

The celeron is not a very slow chip, fair enough it is a budget chip but it would handle photoshop work no problem, where it might stuggle is with alot of multitasking. i would buy a celeron over a sempron anyday.

That deal has now sold out, however we have extended battery life ones left for 419inc VAT & Next day delivery if thats any help?

In 3 days we will have 1.6/512MB/60GB/DVDRW/15.4 Widescreen for a smidge more so if you can hold out a few days our price will be very difficult to beat!

As i said i dont have any experience of Sempron, but what experience I have of Celeron, is that when you have lots of things running it struggles. Therfore i wouldnt recomend it for Photoshop or such, as its very unsual that someone is going to have 1 image at a time for editing.

Plus when you come to add things like AV and other software running in the background, whilst this is mostly using RAM, it all adds to the strain of the processor.

If I can give only one peice of advice on this, it's:

BUY SONY!

I've ordered over 100 of these for work and they are all supurb, we've had one or two faults (one of my techies spilt lemonade over his) but is was gone and back within a week all under warranty.

Far better than other makes we've tried!

  As father and son....
Sonys good except the bloatware crap thats installed on em.

DONT buy a dell.

DO buy a toshiba.

I've just got a Dell from Aaron (Solaristech) to accompany my other Dell Latitude. Been faultless. Is faultless. Never buying HP ever again.

Fair enough alot of new laptops come with bloatware. Dell and Sony are quite notorious but after getting rid of it all, its plain sailing.
