who u with night icon?
and reason for getting one would be this for one!
Matt Cony from the PGAC forum rolled his 205 Turbo and would be dead without it.
I Should be Dead - but live to tell the tale !
Well all I can say is I’m 1 lucky chap to be even typing this story up, let alone still being able to press the keys on the keyboard !.
As a few of you already know (word travels fast) I had a VERY bad road accident in the Peugeot 205 yesterday (Sunday) and should be Dead there is no 2 ways about that.
I was returning home from watching a night road rally, there were 2 cars, me and a mate in his following behind, he also had a passenger. Around 6am in the morning so was quite bright as the sun had risen, we were on a country road picking our way home.
I entered a large S bend and exited ok, on exit the road is long and strait apart from a blind slight twist to the right on a camber, I went over the camber / hump and the road went to the right, as the back end compress down after going over the hump it bottomed out and rebounded up and loosened the back end which caused it to step out to the left so was heading for the wrong side of the road, corrected the steer and the pendulum effect set in and the back end cam back round twice as fast.
At this point I should point out that the back of the car was full with Kit ready for a day at York Raceway, 2 spare wheels 20litre jerry can of petrol and a Box of tools all strapped down.
Corrected the wheel again and this time I was heading back to my side of the road but going sideways – too sideways. The road I was on ran between corn fields and had a 4 meter drop to either side, running sideways on the edge of the road I took out 2 hedges then the front end dug in causing me to go end over end and jump some 20 + meters of field before landing where I than started to roll on my side over and over. I then came to a stop where I landed on my wheels.
I woke up and panic set in, when I woke I found my self trying to climb out of the driver’s window with 1 leg already out. Gave up as a bad idea and got back in. My mates had stopped and were running towards me through the field. The driver’s door wouldn’t open, pain in my feet was starting to set in as well as the shakes.
2 Ambulances and 3 fire tenders in all were sent out to me, expecting dead on arrival. The fire brigade managed to open the driver’s door and I was then extracted on a spine board and strapped up head to foot. Rushed to hospital where I was set upon by a team of doctors and nurses, checking me from head to foot, I was wired up like a Christmas tree with sensors all over. Had my head and spine examined then into x-ray where I must of spent a total of 1 hour and loads and loads of pictures. The police had arrived where they took a statement from me and also cautioned me. Thinking back on it now it was probably not a good idea as I was out of it and could have said anything.
X-rays reviled no broken bones and everything was in tacked. Just bruised bones around my ankles, I hit my head on the cage which cut it open, this was super glued back together, glass was extracted from my neck where I then had to have proper stitches with out anaesthetic (which HURT) and another TB jab. Given Crutches and sent home, I have physiotherapy booked for Wednesday morning, should be a lot better by then though as I am already up and about walking with my crutches.
I had the Car picked up buy a friend who does recovery and brought home where he has dumped it in the field next to my garage. The Car is a total Wright off, I think the engine should be ok. I have personally not looked at it yet only pictures from my digi cam which my dad took for me.
At the end of the day the Safety Devices roll cage did its job and allowed me to walk away from it all, at the moment it doesn’t even look bent out of shape although Im sure it is unlike the rest of the car. All the emergency services told me that I SHOULD be dead and am very lucky.
Not sure what my future plans are going to be yet, if I stick with my pugs or what, all I know is the next car WILL have a full cage in again come hell or high water what ever the cost cause you can’t take it with you when your gone can you !.
These pictures were taken in the field to the side of my house :-
