err.... didnt realise they were cheap but mine is good. Cobra 3868 upgrade to Cat 1.

Has ultrasonic, doors, boot, bonnet protection.... has an emergency over ride code thing next to the hazard light button, works of my renault fob and mine has a level refernce monitor incase someone tries to jack it up or tow it. Alarm is fecking loud and indicators flash... the works. And its windy as hell just now and the montion sensor doesnt go off by that.

Cant compare to other alarms but am well happy with mine....thought they were one of the leaders in car alarms and not that cheap?

I had a cobra cat 1 7928 fitted to my valver it was great, it cost me £300 - they are not cheap that is about the right price fo a cat1 (entry level - with no gizmo's) it had all of the stuff Justin mentioned, plus you could turn the ultra sonics off on it (say if you have kids & wanted to leave them in the car)

Yeah... forgot about turning off the ultrasonic.... if i hold down the emergency over ride button 5 secs after turning ignition off it disables it as cat171 said. The alarm over ride works by having to enter a code....say the code 1234..... you press the button once...pause.....twice...pause...3X...etc..

Useful if the alarm goes off and you dont have the key to disable it or the fob breaks and you have to get in via the key.

I've got a Clifford Concept 600, had it for about 4 years now, maybe a little longer, very reliable, never given me any problems and loads of features including proximty sensors to give a little sharp bleep when anyone gets within a couple of feet.

As for Cobra, had one on my Williams, was installed when i bought the car, it was a cat 1 but didn't seem to have many features (not that I ever knew about anyway), but that always worked ok. Again i'd never realised they were a 'cheap' alarm?

^^ Yeah... thats the one ive got. Thats trade price though i think.... have to add fitting to that and its pretty hard. I phoned them and they charge you sh*t loads to fit it. Think you can only buy it off them if you arrange fitting with then.... rip off!! Also, as it works of the cars immobilers it saves a bit of cost. The value of it is about £250 inc fitting

I wouldnt have a clue... so can you just buy of them and dont need to arrange fitting? pretty good. Wish i was good with electrics... would save shed loads.

if some one fits the alarm & they aren't qualified then it won't have the cat 1 status etc.

Good point.... i needed to provide a certificate of installation by a qualified cobra installer to get it on my insurance.

oh rite, cheers for your help den people, do u think this will b a good investment for me and my car bcoz were i live i have loadz of little fuckin 'Local Druggies' (lol) who steal cars

  Cupra
I could have saved 200 pounds on mine if I had a cat 1. I had to go with another company as the first one would not insure against theft if it did not have the alarm.

That was with two different companies though rather than the same company quoting different prices for the with and without alarm possibilities.

Why did you decide to replace the factory fitted alarm?

Lol... slightly late responce on my behalf.

Mine was an import so wasnt supplied as standard.

Had my cobra 3868 2 months now and can say it works a treat. Never gone wrong. Mates once rocked it when pissed and the motion sensor alarm went off which made them sh*te themselves and a couple of dodgy looking peeps were looking through my open window in a petrol station whcih sent the ultrasonics off lol... they were claiming to just be admiring it, but i recon they had their eye on my road angel. (oops, wont be leaving window open again)
