ARMA 2

Anyone know much about this?

As far as I can tell its PC only??

Also its made by the same guys that made operation flashpoint 1

Its supposed to be a very realistic non linear, military shooter.

Right, here goes.

OFP1 was deveoped by Bohemia Interactive and produced by Codemasters. They eventually fell out and went their seperate ways.
BIS created the Arma series as a spiritual predecessor to OFP, while Codemasters are making OFP2, nothing more than a franchise sequel (though it looks promising).

Armed Assault was pap. AI was s**te, campaign was pony and the whole game felt very incomplete. Arma 2 is supposedly going to be alot better, with a better campaign and alot of new features, but after Arma, I wouldnt hold my breath.

Yes, its PC only and afaik, youll need a pretty respectible rig to run it.

Hope thats cleared everything up! :)

Re: ArmA II..

Tracer rounds look rubbish though.

Bullet crack sounds amazing!

game is shite.took it back and got sims3 instead. Waiting for operation flashpoint 2, ARMA2 is obveously made by people who worked with operation flashpoint people but were crap so got fired. Its an 8800gtx i believe Andy, obveously not the best gfx card but far from worse.

Yeah the narration is pretty s**t. I think the game is pretty good though, from what I've seen.

This is what people dont get about OFP/Arma. Out of the box, yes, its about as polished as a turd. However, the community for the series is massive and really hardcore. Its got a huge modding community which BIS whole heartedly support. The game really comes into its own online though. If you want to get the best out of it, go online and play some coops. Get involved in the community aswell, youll find the game alot more satisfying.

The Shack Tactical area group of community players who use a command structure along with voice comms to play highly tactical, realistic Pvp games. Some of their games are absolutely epic. Literally the best way to get the best out of Arma.

Picked this up in the Steam sale this week. £3.99 for the core ARMA II game itself and £11.99 for the ARMA II : Operation Arrowhead expansion. Or you could have both in a bundle for £17.99. Let me see, I think ordering them individually is cheaper? :S ;)

Looks like it might be up my street this - once I get a decent map for the keyboard controls (as there are s**tloads in this) and also get a 'feel' for the game. COD'ers and BFBC2 players need not apply if you want a gung-ho fest. Just tried the first training mission to steal a lightly armoured vehicle from a valley about 500metres away. Armed with an AK-47, I got close, crept up to the brow of a hill and spotted an enemy AI down the slope, in a crouched position. Went to aim and fire when I heard the 'zip, zip, zing' of rounds coming my way. The fourth one hit and I was dead - out of it completely.

The comments and reviews I read about this being friggin hard weren't a joke....!

I just got my PS3 pad working on my PC - now helicopter missions are actually fun :D

I'm pretty lucky in having one of the 'ol Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback joysticks. Cost a fair whack about 10 years ago (around £100 iirc?) but it's still going strong. Built like a brick s**t-house and makes any flying game simply superb to control.

FLOL - just checked on eBay and even a refurbished one from Germany holds its value!....
