Just put a machine together for a new level Desgner who starts Monday.

DFI Lanparty UD RDX 200

Athlon X2 4800 - couldn't stretch to a FX60 due to the two video cards. :dapprove:
2gb Corsair XMS
2 x Radeon X1900XT 512
700w Aopen PSU, couldn't get an Enermax Noisetaker, and the Akasa 650w one I tried wasn't able to cut it!!

Just benchmarked it with no bios tweeking or overclocking. Quite impressed.

3D Mark 2005 - 12623
3D Mark 2006 - 8187

i can make 11k with a slightly overclocked card with cpu running at stock.

why that score seems rather low for 2 x1900's

shame ati have released the X1900XTX but only make crossfire X1900xt's

Looking at the results others have posted on the Futuremark site I'd say that's pretty good. It's higher than Toms Hardware posted when they reviewed the card and a lot higher than many others have posted in other tech forums.

The ATI drivers are the first revision to support the X1900 and weren't to happy in Crossfire mode to start with.

Do stats really mean that much though? We had a system with an Athlon X2 4800, single X1900XT (512MB), stuck on an A8N Ultra mobo yesterday and tbh, it just looked good to me - not jaw-droppingly good like I thought it would.

We ran BF2, UT2004 and Performance Test on it and in all honesty, the only thing I noticed that was massively different to my PC was the circling plane model on the PT suite being nearly four times the speed of mine.

I'm not saying that BF2 didn't look great and play smoothly at all. All I'm trying to say is that I was prepared to be amazed and quite frankly felt a bit disappointed. I'll certainly be keeping hold of my 'Upgrade Cash' a while longer, methinks....

well what is it your running?

It only really makes a difference if you have a decent enough monitor to play it on where you can play at 2048x1536 resolution with all the eye candy turned on. 6 x aa 16x AF etc.

You've got a fair point there, wozzaa. For the most part, I only run things in 1024x768 or 1280x1024 resolution on a 19" Iiyama CRT screen. My PC spec is certainly just average - XP3200+, MSI nForce2 Ultra mobo, 1.5GB Corsair DDR400 and a Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty card - the Fatal1ty itself has made a very noticable improvement on the framerate of most games, though. Oh, not forgetting the 9800 Pro gfx....

I suppose the other issue with the likes of the X2 tech is the fact that so little (at the moment) supports it natively. For the most part, one core is used, albeit a bit quickly..... ;)

I've ordered pretty much the same spec only with an FX60 today, had to drop the Crossfired X1900s though and instead got one X1900XTX and two LCD monitors, plus some massive hard drives seeing as it's for our audio guy.

My boss reckoned I shouldn't be wasting money on the FX60, but I'm still well under budget and I want a play with it. lol

It has it's moments, I think I've spent the last 12 years wondering when the company was going to go under. Elite went, then Rage, at least Swordfish are now owned by a company who won't go under.
