automatic lights not automatic!

my 'clever' lights aren't so clever any more and seem to have stopped coming on by themselves when it is dark - they still work but I have to turn them on! I'm guessing some sensor somewhere isn't working - any ideas on what I need to do

turn key one click (maybe two)but dont start engine,
head light switch ,turn on/off,on/off,
you will hear two beeps .
job done!!

Key in your ignition to first position , turn your lights on/off on/off quickly , you should hear a beep . Same process to deactivate them .

cool beans will go out and try it as soon as it gets dark!
