AUX Belt

Just brought my Clio 182 with 22k on the clock and is sitting at Renaults now waiting for the tensioners to be replaced on the AUX belt (should be done this coming Friday under warranty).

Car had its 3 year service just before I brought the car. Should the AUX belt been changed then?

They told me I can still drive the car even with squeaky tensioners but I have just left my car there as dont want that snapping into the cambelt.

Should the tensioners on the AUX belt be knackered already... yes I know its a Renault. Should ask them to chuck on a new belt while its being donw or will they automatically do that for me? i dont mind paying £15-£25 for a belt but should I get them to pay for that?

Any help would be great

Yes make sure they change the belt, tensioner and the idler. It should be done every 36k.

The idler? Whats this? Should this have all been done on the 3 year (36k service) even though the car has only done 22k?

Its a little silver wheel at the very bottom, if you peel the wheel arch off or look from underneath you can see it. This is the part thats most exposed to the elements and the bearing can dry up and make noise. TBH a lot of people have got away with not changing any of it until the big 72k service.

its not really a five minute job mate!
and the belt costs around £40 i think?

I will ask them about it when I pick my courtesy car up for the day Friday. Think it will be a nice modus or little clio this time! This should all be completed in a day shouldnt it? Havent driven it for a week already and am missing it now.

Belt looks huge from that pic. If they charge me for the belt but do the rest I will be happy... just fix my car!!!
