if the noise is that bad then it should be covered under warranty.Engine/gearbox mount definatly covered some parts of the exhaust may not be covered after the vehicle is over 12 months old(but there would be a contribution from renault anyway i should think)

Most likely the exhaust moving under the car and hitting the floor...

If its just suddenly done it, check all the rubber hangers on the exhaust as one has probably come off!

They make this noise if you launch hard when 1/4 miling too.

About 90% of 172 owners have this problem: do a search under banging under acceleration. It is the engine mount beneath the battery that has become loose and needs tightening. Ring SMC Renault Woking to find out how common this problem is - if your garage cant fix it get them to call them and talk to tech bloke - they advised a mechanic VR6MAN used to fix his and all is fine.......

SMC woking number is: 01483 720322

hope this helps (in fact this will help, so do it!)

this isnt nothing small like a engine mount(all the mounts are tight and ok).this isnt the commen knocking noise that you all get.this is the first 172 ive heard/felt do this.

cheers si thanks for that advise mate? hey up jay they called my wife on friday and said the good news is they have heard the noise (no sh*t) the bad news is looking at the end of the week until this is sorted..dont give a damn as long as the car comes out ok..they said they have fitted new driveshafts to the car which took all day but when they test drove it it was still there but best of all worse!!! what have they said about it jay? what do you think it could be???? just my luck to get the first car that does this!!!!

they have fitted new driveshafts but it didnt cure it. i think it might be a gearbox(differential) problem but they are going to recheck it this week.

did they take the new driveshafts of it then? wot kind of job could the gearbox problem be then? im i gonna be without the car all week mate? have you worked on my before..were you there when i came through to look at the rear brake bias thingy boby??

theyve the left new shafts on because the old ones were faulty but something else had damaged the shafts.i think ive had something to do with your car but it was quite a while ago and i cant remember what it was.the past few times its been in i havent done it.seen you when you came in cos i found the paperwork for the front desk to show the spring isnt fitted.
