BIG PROBLEM! Expert advice needed

  Clio 1.2 16v
BIG PROBLEM - Not for the faint hearted believe me!

Ive had all the mounts on my car changed due to excessice gearstick and engine movement.

Me and my mechanic still see alot of movement under the car where the dogbone mount is linked towards the black rod (runs to the bottom end of the car).

Can anyone on here suggest anything because Renault are chargin me £90 to just have the car looked at.

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

I would prefer expert advice because this has really got my mechanic who's brilliant at what he does.

Please help!

I thought you were gonna say your son put is marbles into your engine through your oil filler, that would be MAJOR... I hope you get to the bottom of this dilema though, good luck

on the smaller engine clios its common, you only got to worry if its so much movement that it pulls the car out of gear when you come off the accelerator, its totally normally for there to be quite a bit. my clio is the same

They'll change you 90 notes and tell you its normal behaviour like you've been told, which is it. The mounts are soft and thats just how they are.

I suffered the same problem with mine, and was told by Renault that the dog bone mount needed replacing which they replaced. Part was cheap, but obv labour wasnt....still wobbles about like it did before, so obv this didnt work!

Like I said the mounts have been changed but when I bought the car
(6 months ago) the gearstick movement was very minimal.

This has worsened over time and I cant find the problem. They cant tell me to change the mounts because thats already been done.

Lets see what they come up with.

Anyone recommend a new gearbox?

My 1.4 16v has been known to jump out of second going over speed bumps. All the mounts/gearbox and clutch are fine..

It's a fecking french tarty shopping machine. Get over it.

do the bushes in the mount have any gaps in them ?

if so, take the dogbone off and fill the gaps with polyurethane sealant, most Renault dealers will have 'Ixell MJ Pro' in stock, try that

Problem Found!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wrong gearbox oil in my gearbox.

Theres knocking coming from the gearbox and I knew it.

Do I have to replace the gearbox or can I drain out the oil?

Can I ask what has this problem got to do with gearbox oil????
I somehow don't think wrong gearbox oil makes your engine and gearbox move about!!! only guessing

work for renault as a tech.. have seen auto transmission fluid in a manual before.. some people are that stupid, so it is possible

Excessive gearstick movement, if that is your problem, is caused by a worn dogbone. end of. however if your gearbox / top mount are in the wrong place or worn it will cause the manifold/gearbox to hit your subframe/ heatshields on acceleration.

I've just cured mine after 4 -5 attempts got the mounts in about the right place

Mate, Listen up.Thats not the case for all 1.2s.

I bought my clio 6 months ago and the gearbox was totally fine.No excessive movement or juddering.

The renault techi said the diff in the gearbox was making a knocking sound which was caused by using the wrong gearbox oil.

The mounts are totally fine as they have all been replaced with new ones.
