Bigger rims effects sat nav

  Mk5 R32 (ex.182 (Cupped))

Just put my 16s on my clio for the meanwhile before i get my 17s, and I have sat nav in my clio. Was reading in another cars manual (lexus) that when u change the wheels, the sat nav needs to be adjusted because the wheels effect it.. Is this the same for the clio? Hows it affect it?

Thanks in advance

it does if its a Renault Sat Nav thing.. cus Renault actually use the roads and the speedo to detect where you are driving - so it dont go off in tunnels..

Normal Sat Nav, just uses GPS to get position, so in tunnels, you might lose it, but coming it out gets it back.

Ummm, well mines the renault sat nav and im sure it uses the gps to get position....

If theres something wrong with it id notice if i took it for a guided trip yeh? Ill have a whirl now :D Hopefully it wont take me to france :D

Of course it uses GPS to get position.. but, in tunnels.. itll use your average speed so it looks like it knows where it is - when it gets the GPS Lock back, itll use GPS again.. so with bigger wheels, itll predict your going faster/slower than you are.

Ah ok :) I gotta bit confused a moment ago, got it now :) only when it loses my position. thats ok :D Its not gonna be that far out with 16s or 17s on if i get the right tyre...

Cheers

Exactly, its minimal.. and when it gets a lock on the sats again, itll reget your exact position anyway.

Well, I think thats how it does it - was speaking to Roamer about it.. cant see it not using the Sats all the time when it can.. but I know it definetly uses the Speedo to do some tracking..

Oki :) I think my speedo is only gonna be out about 1mph at 60 so not gonna make much of a diff :D

hehe, you can always check on the Sat Nav if it tells ya?

I know when Im doing 70, GPS says Im doing 74.. which is odd.. cus it should be the other way.. but its a Renault.. hah.

Hehe :)

Well ive only got these 195/45/16s on for a week or so, then im gonna fit 17s when i got the side skirts on... 16s look good, but it bugs u knowing u can fit just a little tad bigger :D

Just to let you know, with my sat nav system anyway, it uses GPS to get a lock on your position and uses the speed pulses and gyroscope in corrilation with the GPS data.

It actually learns if the speed pulses are taking you further or less than the GPS and so it learns that 1 speed puls = less or more than what it should.

Mine has various stages, and once it gets to level 4 its fully adjusted to the speed pulse/gps differences.

Sat nav = GPS = Satellites in the sky, nowt to do with yer wheels. A Satnav system could be linked to the speedo but what would the point in that be? If you go in a tunnel how would your satnav know where you were going even if it was linked to the speedo???

  A blue one.

..because they use gyroscopes and your speed, they know both your speed and direction, so when you go into the tunnel its able to keep tracking until you come out of the tunnel and reaquire the satellites...
