Boring out a dci lol

  Clio DCi 100
Hey, was wonderin if its worth boring out my dci & how far i could take it...its a 1461 cc atm, could i reach 1.6 & would it make it any faster? lol

  bmw 318ci coupe
whats the point? its a diesel at the end of the day, for all the money you have and are planning to spend you could put it along with the sale of the car to get something that is naturally fast, thats my opinion, also you may find it harder to sell a diesel clio that has all that done to it

Could you not use a bigger turbo/intercooler etc, no idea what else would need to be uprated in the engine though

ive spoke to the derv doctor about this. I was told things woulg get very expensive, as things would have to be custom made. The 1.5 dci engine isnt as popular for tuning, as say the vag 1.9tdi is. Therefore there isnt many (if any) off the shelf tuning bits, beyond a remap/box.

If money wasnt an issue, and you still wanted to get bigger turbos+intercoolers, you would find other problems, such as the gearbox wouldnt be able to cope with the torque etc.

Inevitabley,it could be a huge money pit........

Yeah, was thinkin of boring it out to get slightly greater capacity then tryin a limited torque map cos of the weaker box & focusin on upping the BHP which hopefully won't affect the box, its currently running around 125bhp but i'm being greedy really lol :rasp:

  Exige S1 + Honda S1
would cost silly amounts for little gain.

as said, go for a bigger turbo if you are really after speed from your dci, personally I would buy a faster car to start with

Im on a rolling roaded 121bhp+161 lb/ft (ish), and sometimes i think thats too much for the car. It spends half its time spinning, through 1st,2nd+3rd in the wet (which it usually is in england!) I love the car to bits, but id hate it with much more torque, it would be useless!!

If you have the money to throw at it, it would be interesting to see what could be done as not many people have "played" with them. But as someone said earlier, it would be money better spent swapping to a quicker car to start off with.

Thats my plan, with a Fabia vrs set firmly in my sights........

Your torque figures sound low, u sure ure not on a limited map yourself?
Mines running 125bhp and 190lbs /ft, and i didn't even think that was an extreme map i just asked them to get the best out of it lol

does 0-60 in around 8 secs atm

After much debating at the time, i went for a tunit. I chose that knowing the performance gains wouldnt be as much as a remap, but with the knowledge that the dci 100's dont have the best reputation for reliability+i wanted to keep things "safe". I wanted a compromise between performance+reliabilty.

As plenty of people will rush to tell you on here, the gearboxes are supposedly sh*t, but touch wood, ive not any problems with mine. I blew the turbo, pre tunit, a month or so after i got the car, but that was replaced under warranty.

At the time i had it fitted, tunit (in chorley) rr it, at 126bhp+173lb/ft. But i took that with a pinch of salt. Ive since had it on 3 other rr,(one at fcs) and just roughly averaged the quote out, that i gave you.

I managed a mid 9s 0-60 at fcs this year, with my work gear+sub in the boot, as it was an impulse thing

I love my car, and the amount of people it surprises, but it is what it is. Im not going to try and make it something it isnt

Was just wondering if anyone had thought of doing it really. Ive got a friend that said he'd do it if asked but obviously it wouldn't be worth it if there weren't even any slight gains to be had. So yeah just a what if really lol

I got excited+had them thoughts ages ago too!! lol

As said, there simply isnt the demand for tuners to manufacture bits for them :dapprove:

I did try looking through some renault specialists in france, because im sure someone, somewhere has got a little carried away with a clio dci 100. Its just finding them!! (and my french isnt very good!)

Yep there options out there. 100 intercoolers not bad though turbo chnage can be an option but injectors are lways going to be the limit pushing more and more hp and the engine will suffer. Bigger injectros will always make more power for the same rest of engine spec but they cost a ton.

The 105 engine is a good idea get that to fit get a stronger box makde to match upto it then some big injectors run a new fuel pump maybe duel pumps etc with a suited turbo ported head etc and on stock bottom end you'll be near top spec normally aspirated 172's IMO.

Turbo is decient enough in the engine anyway injectors are the thing you need to work.

Gearbox yep your already at the limit on the stock engine power engine was derated for the box anyway so your messing beyond warently strenght. There are other options but you have to either pay a load of DIY. and for the effort other engine are a better idea IMO. Tunning is a money pitt though just like cars in general.

The gearbox is rubish though.

I'd love to know what pistons he wanted to use the ones on the market would be less suited to your engine than the ones you have now most likly as proper cstom designed diesel piston (different desing needed that petrols) cost a fortune.

Gains are there but for the cost there not. a lot more can be done elsewhere infact when yuor at the limit and need to look for more cc you';ll have spent a lot of money and you'll be probably best not increasing the cc as you'll be wanting to sleve the block most likly to deal with the power. Stock block and piston would take a heck of a lot of power

  VX220 Turbo
quickest and easiest thing to do is drop a 172 / 182 engine box and loom in from a scrap yard or just buy a 172 / 182 and play with that.

also whenever looking at upgrading a cars power also consider brakes and suspension,
The first reason is they might need uprating to cope with the extra power. Second reason is you could probably gain more speed by upgrading brakes and suspension along any road that isnt a straight line.

  CB600FS
Waste of money to be honest wouldn't be worth it. Better off shoe-horning the old 1.9 120bhp or the new 1.5 110bhp DCI engines in.

Remap
K&N Filter (needs cleaning regularly)
DCI 100 intercooler and pipes
Better injectors
Clean/bypass EGR
