have just gone thru my first tankful after using normal 95ron at the jet station and theres a MASSIVE DIFFERENCE!!!

..

However... its not in mpg or performance..!!! they seemed to be the same... so its just the 9p per litre price hike... me thinks Im going back to the cheap stuff!!!!

Lots of discussion on this.. and at the end of the day Renault recommends 98RON, and that what I put in.

yes, ive tried that and it gave me less mpg than from the jet garage, there may well be a difference but i cant see it....

Dont use it because you want it to make you go faster - or further - use it because you care about your engine and its long term health!!

I dont rate Ultimate at all. Optimax on the other hand is great.

Given the choice between 95 and Ultimate, i choose 95.

Found Ultimate to make no difference and Optimax does. Feels better and get more MPG with optimax.

Dont run it all the time though, usually alternate between optimax tank full then normal shell tank full.

Agreed Optimax is much better....

I feels sorta smoother (difficult to explain) but my cup runs better on it any how. Shame its a mission to the nearest Shell garage for me

Same here, the nearest shell garage is a 15-20 mile round trip! Havent noticed any difference between Ultimate and Optimax. Havent run it on anything else so cant comment on other fuels!

Ultimate is 97 ron and optimax is 98 ron, is this true. So ultimate is useless for our 172s right.

just get optimax. it makes your engine run alot smoother. Increased mpg is debatable.

just go to the BP and get the 98 ron stuff - doesnt cost the premium special fuels do...

I get lot more mpg with optimax. Same with my last car aswell.

Optimax IS 98 RON

Ultimate IS 97 RON

if anyone wants to argue both those points simply look at the websites its all on there, fact

plus ive never understood why people put 95RON into a 172, you bought a performance car, put proper petrol in it........would you put sh*te oil in it ?.........hopefully not........so why use sh*te petrol, especially if Renault recommend 97/98

it makes no difference to performance whatsoever. I put the cheapest stuff in i can find. Aferall i dont care about the engine, its being swapped for something newer in three years.

I only have a 1.2, but i change the oil every 6 months, always use optimax, only sommet like £2 a tank dearer, cant feel any difference, but just mental gain in speed
