Brake compensator...

  Silver Clio 172 Cup
....apparently mine's seized & the connecting rod is missing from the axle.

So what is it, what does it do and how easy or difficult is it to fix?

Cheers

Tom

Hmmm. It's a 53 plate silver 172 Cup (and yes, it is a proper one not some sort of fake!)

The same report also said the front discs and pads were 'worn to excess' (even though they are only 2 months old) but didn't say anything about the rear pads and discs (which are completely knackered).

It was a main dealer who said all this and I have it in writing.

What do you reckon?

Thats a poor showing from a dealership the CUp doesn't have a compensaor so there no problem there.

There an MOT note for the CUps saying they on't have the compensator as many MOT places tried to fail them on MOT for not having them.

Don't ever take your car back there again, they've not the first f***ing clue what they're talking about. Let them get their hands on it and they'll screw it up.

A 172 Cup doesn't have that part fitted, it comes from the factory exactly as it is, the brake bias is set and non-adjustable.

If you want a genuine (unqualified) opinion of the condition of your discs/pads, jack it up, take a wheel off and take a pic.

Stick it up on here and we'll let you know if they're knackered or not.

Cheers Fellas - it kind of reinforces my opinions of dealers.

I know the front pads and discs are fine but the rears are totally shot so I couldn't believe it when they got that completely wrong on their '25 point inspection'. The rear pads are practically down to the metal on scored discs (which they reckon is fine) but the fronts have loads of meat left on them and discs in good nick (which they reckon need replacing). I keep a close eye on these things because I track it a fair bit. They can't even have looked at it if they're saying that, and this compensator thing just backs up that theory.

What would the compensator look like anyway? I might have a look myself just to be absolutely sure!!!

the compensator is there, but its not linked to the axle on purpose, its set from factory and isnt meant to be altered.
