brake fluid is not particularly rock science.
Minimum specifications for DOT 4
Dry Boiling point 230 °C (446 °F) , Wet Boiling point 155 °C (311 °F)
DOT 5.1
Dry Boiling Point 270 °C (518 °F), Wet boiling point 190 °C (374 °F)
Dry boiling point is as it comes out the tin, wet is once its absorbed 3.7% water.
I'll use CL Brakes as an example as I have it to hand
Its a DOT 4
Dry boiling point 325 Deg. C (617 Deg. F.), Wet boiling point 195 Deg. C. (383 Deg. F.)
so as you can see it exceeds the minimum specs for 5.1
Off the top of my head Castrol SRF is THE best performance brake fluid for wet boiling point on the market, but CL brakes is better dry.
All the specs are easy to find on the web and theres little advice that can be given. Buy the best you can afford and personally I would be changing it on a yearly service minimum.
