Bridgestone RE050A

  PH2 172
Anyone tried this on a 1*2? I've heard good things about them on other cars...

Mytyres are currently showing them at £78 fitted.

  dci126 & H&R'd 1*2
I've had the RE040's and imo they were the best tires i've ever had, immense good tire when dry, but even better in the rain, and then i mean epic on wet surfaces

  RSC 182 Cup
While not a RSC, my wife's Mazda 6 had them on 17" rims (215/45R17). They gripped well and had excellent steering response, but at the expense of lots of road noise being transmitted into the cabin. The shoulders on them also wore out way before the rest of the tread- this seems to be a common problem with them on Mazda 6's and Subaru Liberty's.

Oh and in Australia they're ridiculously expensive!?

  Clio Sport 172 mk2
Hi Scottland,

I got these RE050A tires on my 172 Mk2-AST dampered ;) and I really love them ! On dry road, these tires offer wonderful handling and a very very good feeling, I mean it is a very communicative tire (I don't know if you say that in english !) as it doesn't make you any surprise. I didn't test it a lot on wet road for the moment but the few I did was really impressive !
I didn't compare it directly to the Michelin PE2 (I had Dunlopp SP9000 before) so it's hard to say which one I prefere, the PE2 or the RE050A... I think if I had to buy new tires I would go for the Bridgestone. ;) But as always, dimensions, load and speed indexes are very important too and in France the RE050A is not available in 205/45 R16 87W like the PE2 is... so up to the customer to choose depending from the car !

To vincent :
People who tried the RE040 before the RE050A say there is a VERY big improvement with the RE050 A ! ;)

;)
Vincent

PS : Oh, I forgot, of course, choose them in "XL" version with 84 load index (reinforced flank) !

  Mazda RX8
The Mazda Rx8 has the 40's as standard and most people find them pretty crap and say the 50's are a huge improvement, however alot of people are turning to Vredestien Ultrac Sessantas.

  Megane RS 250
I've just received a pair of re050 195/45/16 84v XL for the front wheels, the actual rear Pzero Nero are shot, so the front ones go in the back...I've got them on the mini (205/45/17) and they're pretty good everywhere, stiff sidewalls, good in spirited driving on dry and VERY good in the wet, even with low temperature and some melting snow. I agree with murcod, the ARE a bit noisy, especially after 10k km.
Honestly I don't care, my exhaust cover pretty every other sound...missus complaints too...
I'll give you some feedback in a few thousand miles.

I had the Re040 on my old S2000 (205/45/16,225/40/16) and they were crap in the wet and cold, although wonderful in hot days and on track. My father has them on the 350z, but I drive it very rarely. I think the 50 is a more all-rounder, and it has some more tread so they last longer, or they keep enough of it for the rain longer. They bigger improvement is that they keep a lot more grip at low temperature.
