Budget of £5000 car and parts

I'm after a new car and have a budget of just over £5000. It needs to be a good road car but i also do track days so needs to be able to cope with some track work.

My previous car was a Phase 1 172, which i put some coilovers on and loved it. It was a good everyday car and good fun on the track.

Or do i buy a newer car like a low milage cup or 182 and wait for the other bits.

What would everyone on here do?

Cheers All

Newer, low milage 182. They are more than good enough for track IMO.

Then later add mods if you need to.

dc2 end of why would you want a 182 when you could have a type r the clio will lose money cant see a 4k dc2 price to come down much more than that

i'd go for a 172 cup good all rounder, thats why i bought mine.

Can get a decent one for 4k and spend the rest on ast's or something along those lines.

Thats a fair point, i never even thought about the dc2, only thing is they are getting on a bit and most out there are either high milers or dogs, you would have to spend your whole budget to find a good one, But amazing cars.

If you want the all toys for when your driving it on the road then its got to be the 182. If you want it to be a bit more track focussed and can live without aircon then a 172 cup and for a compromise though you end up with a slightly older car a PH1.

there are two track ready ph1's on PH for way under 5K. That will leave you with some change for other parts you might want...
