Build quality and Dealers

Hi all

Sorry to moan, but looking for some advice.

On March 1st I brought a 172, 2003 spec, ESP being the only difference, not that it matters.

Anyway Ive read a few posts of people having build quality problems but I really must have the "Friday afternoon after 5 stellas at lunch" car as Ive got so many faults.

I wont go into all of them but main 2 are a crooked steering column or cowling basically the plastic bit behind the steering wheel is all on the p*ss. Then the other main problem is ticking, hissing noise coming from under the gear knob. Others include hesitant on auto choke, trouble starting, rattles all over the dash, weird noise from driver seat, crunches when going into 4th.

It went in on Saturday morning for them to have a brief look at it before it goes in for 4 days next Tuesday. Out come was that new seat runners, and seat cushion are needed, replaced the contacts on the drivers airbag???, and he made the noise under gear knob worse, oh and also damaged my dash in the whole process. But the worst one was that he said that all clios have a crooked cowling and the Clios I went in which had straight ones were the faulty ones!!

So my question is what have people done before in compaining to Renualt HQ, about build quality and dealers, has anyone got anywhere and been successful.

Takes the p*ss really as if we brought a £100 DVD player or whatever from Dixons and 9 months down the line it starts playing up I can take it back and get my money back...I spend 14k on a brand new motor and have virtually zero chance of getting my money back...surely there is something wrong there?

Sorry to keep quoting this but from my time working at Ford . . .

You have the right to reject a car unpto 6 month after purchasing it assuming you can find sutable cause to do so. However you WILL need to read up about this wit hvarious consumer rights organisations as the dealers will NOT want to do it.

I bought a Focus on staff discount for my mum and we rejected that after 4 months (and 8 trips back to the dealer) due to periodic power drops and constant stalling (FYI the stalling was the cars fault, not my mums!!)

After wining for AGES they eventually took the car back and replaced it with a brand new identical one.

Hope that helps

I get all these, except for the crunch into 4th, I occasionally get it into 5th instead!!! Ive had my seat rattle fixed but the rest I really cant be bothered.

Interestingly enough I also brought it through staff discount, but I didnt think that Id get that discount knocked off the build quality too.

Ill see how it goes, if they fix everything then fair enough.

Its mainly the after sales service Im annoyed at and that some monkey who obviously knows nothing about Clios tried to fobb me off. Although I have said that when it goes back I do not want him touching my car, but unless I put a hidden camera in it Ill be none the wiser if he does or not.

If the car was a few years old I wouldnt be bothered either but as it is brand spanking theyre should be no problems at all.

Damn dude, sorry to hear about all your problems.. really does sound like you got one of the bad ones.

I think we have all had minor problems with our cars but not to the extent you have.. I hope you get them fixed or renault provide you with a new car.
