Cams or different car???

Lem

  Clio 182
Having had my 182 for a while now i'm looking to change it a little, been sersiouly looking at a cam/remap package from AW but have been thinking is it just worth moving on and changing my car?? what do you lot think??

personally ........ save your money for a better car , there's only so much you can get out of the clio .

or on another note .....turbo :D

depends, if you can afford to get another car then do that, if you cant justify that or simply dont want to change from the Clio then it's certainly worthwhile as you will have a much quicker than standard car.

I cammed my old Williams and the difference was huge, went from being able to keep up with my mates 260bhp Impreza to leaving it behind. Clio's can respond really well to just simple cheap mods.

i would thought the opposite you spend alot of money on the clio for a very little gain as compared to other cars .

Really!? 182s are notoriously expensive to tune.

What 'better' car are you considering buying. If you are really into lightweight hot hatches then there isnt anything better to buy and sticking some cams in will make a difference (although bhp per pound is not good). If you want RWD or 4x4 turbo then obviously a clio isnt either of those things and you should look for a different type of car.

Go and drive a 4x4 turbo ie. subaru or evo and see what you think. I have driven a subaru and although capable was not fun to drive in comaprison to my clio.

People that say buy a better car usually want an M3, boxster or jap 4x4. They have never driven these cars and see them purely as status symbols. If you are into having fun keep the clio, if you want the status of the other cars and dont forget much higher running costs start saving they arent cheap.

cheers, think after reading what you've said i'm gunna keep with the clio, love it to bits and dont really wanna change it, looks like cams is the only way. Anyone recommend a good company to use, i no AW, GDI already but wounder how different the final result would be??

Its only worth modding the Clio if your thinking of holding on to it for a while imo

Some good gains to be had if you mod it right but versus a turbo car the cost to mod is extortionate for little gains, compared.

tbh mate it will be a waste of money ! u just hav to look on here to see the amount of dissapointed people with 172/182s who have attempted to tune them. needs about £2000 spent for 18bhp.

Games moved on a lot now compered to when some of us started modding these.

I could have got the same gains on mine for half the cash now than 2 / 3 years back !

I have a 200bhp car that has cost me alot more then that. As Andyman says you should get a fairly cheap/proven package now that others have gone through the pain.

I would definately get some H&R or Leda (I think they are back in business?) coilovers properly setup it will cost around 1k for the H&Rs but will transform the car.

It is only a waste of money if your expectations are to high, you are thinking of selling the car within the next couple of years or you do not own the correct car (ie. really want a RWD or 4x4 turbo).

I spoke to a chap recently who is into 200sx. He told me you can tune a turbo easily but when you shove an extra 100bhp through transmission and diffs etc something else will go pop then you have to uprate it. Just increasing boost or bolting on bigger turbos makes for a car that is nothing...nothing... BANG, it certainly is big power but big fun? More scary then fun IMO especially on slippery winter road on your way back from work.

I bought my clio brand new three years ago and have got cams coilovers etc. etc. I still find it exciting to drive especially when still within legal speed limits. I hope to still own it in 10 years time so I can gloat at the people who have just bought the latest lardy dumbed down 1400kg 250bhp clio. They arent getting any better are they?

Speak to BenR at AWT IMO if you go ahead. He knows his s**t.

I do love my Clio and it's a cracking car, but more and more I'm wanting a car that I can just point and shoot with little effort, guess I'm getting old :(

Everytime I drive my folks Impreza I want it lol.
