Save the money that you were going to spend, put it in a savers account or someware safe, wait till you get about 1200 notes and buy a 1.8RSI or more money for a Valver, this is your best bet, dont bother trying to 'tune' your motor mate, it will be a waste of money

oh bugger, was ready to say chip it!

I've got a chipped dCi 80 with a performance air filter that fu**in flies - sub 10 0-60, 120 mph!

as for 1.9 -

1) keep it well serviced, K&N performance air filter (worked a treat on my 19td - same basic engine)

2) weight - clear all the crap out of boot glove box, back seats and spare and it WILL make a significant difference - 50kg lost will feel like 10bhp extra.

Putting an external filter is going to lose him power, not gain

he never said external filter. think he just meant aftermarket filter (cotton instead of paper) which r also re-usable which is never a bad thing

lol I love the thing on here about filters.

On real old diesels people used to add about half a litre of petrol for every 10 litres of diesel when filling up and that boosted performance, however I'm not sure it'd be much good for the engine... Worth a try though !!

But basically, there's not much that can be done to a NA diesel engine. I wouldn't bother spending a lot on it if I were you.

WOuldnt bother getting a 1.6 unless you get the 16v and want to spend lots of money tuning it. If i had my choice again I'd get a valver.

Diesels don't produce half as much heat soak...But i wouldn't put an open filter on anything to be fair.

yeah spose so, might just try a performance filter and get rid of all the studd i dont need see what it does, that way not much loss. then buy a valver next :) when i got enough money.
cheers everyone

lol why save up to buy the same car with a different engine ???

Just keep your car as long as poss and buy something nice.

To get more power, why else, why change to a complete different car if he likes Clios, i went from an rt to an RSI to a cup, is this wrong?!?
