Car has been previously re-mapped!

I'm pretty sure my car has been re-mapped by the previous owner, I wasn't told that it had been by the previous owner but I have the higher rev limit. It'll rev right up to around 7700/7800. (Not that I take it up that far often)

My question is, if I was to try and get the car back to the way it was when it was mapped (exhaust/de-cat etc) would my car perform/run more efficiently?

If it has been re-mapped chances are it's been done at RS-Tuning as I bought the car from Leeds.

  Golf GT & A4 Avant
If it is a custom map then the car will run better with the mods that it was mapped with. If it's a standard generic map I wouldn't have thought it'll make much difference

give the previous owner a call mate.

I had exactly the same thing with my 182, previous owner admitted it when I had a chat to him as I had noticed the increased limit & it pulled very well for a standard map, managed to get the invoice of him too.

Plugged the car into diagnostics and you could see the map & date etc of when it was done - may be worth doing the same

I never knew a diagnostics check would throw up details of a map. Suppose it makes sense really with it being ECU related.

Don't know why people hide the fact it's been mapped to potential buyers, I personally wouldn't mind aslong as it's been done properly.

Yeah, stick in on an RSTuner even, usually you can see the alterations/past maps all logged (unless it has been totally flashed)

I guess it represents modding = thrashing the guts out of it, and to stop it from damaging the appeal to would-be buyers they choose to not tell.

My seller said "he forgot" even though the invoice was for over a grands worth of work not long before I bought it; with the map included as part of the work, he just choose not to tell me/include it in the service history.

Should have taken it to the limiter when I test drove it, that would have shed some light lol.

True! but I bet 90% of RS's have been thrashed anyway.

Lol at he forgot. He must have the memory of a goldfish or must be considerably well off financially if he can just forget about a grands worth of work.

I always give the cars I test drive a good blast just so it might highlight any problems with the car, never bounced one off the limiter though. Lol

depends on the mods but paul usually maps a standard car to about 7400/500 iirc

It definitely revs higher than that but then again I'd imagine it's had a custom map because the car has been previously modded. 99% certain it's been decatted at somepoint in it's life because the cat pipe is in two pieces.
