Car spraying help!

  Golf 7.5R & Clio 200
Hello!

I've spoken to a few people on here so have a rough idea, but before I attempt anything I want to get my planned methods approved or rectified.. Probably the latter!

The interior trim on my Clio is Silver, standard. However it's a bit tired now, so needs touching up. I already have some paint that matches my car (Capsicum Red 727) and I have some White Plastic Primer.

What I was going to do is this;-

Rub down bits of trim so the primer has something to latch onto

2 layers of primer, few hours in-between for drying

1 or 2 layers of paint, depending on how it turns out, again with a lot of drying time. Then simply polish up, I wasn't planning on using lacquer as it's not exterior?

Hopefully thats all okay.

ALSO, whilst you're here, I want to body colour up my exterior bumpers, the trim down the side of the door's more than anything (Near bullets). What I was going to do is rub them down so they're smooth, and basically the same as above, but with some lacquer after..

Am I an idiot (be nice) Or does it sound alright?

Thanks!
Ry

red scotch the trim, followed by a few coats of primer.. leave 30 mins or so to dry.. then wet grey scotch or wet flat it with 600.. then paint.. 3-4 coats.. lacquer if you want it to have a gloss finish

interior- rub down the trim so its nice and keyed up (use quite a fine grade) clean, prime, leave to dry a bit, perhaps a bit more primer, rub down to make it nice and smooth ( i'd use wet n dry 800 grit) and the clean again :)... paint, dry, bit more paint and voila. btw you wont be able to 'polish' them if your not laquering you will just rip all your precious paint off!

exterior isnt gonna be easy to get them textured trims smooth, rub um down a s best as possible and use a filler primer, then paint the same as the interior ones...DEFFO laquer these :) good luck

Just put my first cote of primer on, am leaving to dry at the mo - does the next layer of primer go straight on top? Or should I sand itna little more?

I used 60grain wet n dry, and how lo g should leave it for?

you flatted the plastic with 60 ?? or did you mean 600 ?

if you did it with 60 then thats wayyy to coarse. You will have to wet flat it with 600 till its very smooth and all he bobbly bits have gone... then high fill prime

more than likely it will of ruined it.. a red scotch would of sufficed.

p40,p60 and p80 are ideally only for filler work.. or surface rust removal. using something so coarse on a plastic will ruin it unless you know how to properly repair the item.

Personally i would go to the scrapper and get some new trims.. or go to a motorfactors and get some 2k high fill primer

:/ looks alright to me, after the first layer of primer (now dry to touch) it's all smooth and lovely. I'll carry on with these, see how they turn out first. Fingers crossed they'll be okay, if not, shouldnt cost much for new ones :)

that sounds more like it.. should be fine then mate.

just give it 2-3 good coats.. then flat it back ( wet 600 lightly) then give 2more coats.. flat again then paint.

Cool beans, will do. Once painted, I assume I rinse and repeat with the lacquer? D I rub Dow. Slightly before hand or just whack it on?

yeah thoroughly clean the panel.. can use white spirits if you dont have panel wipe.. use a moist cloth/rag

dont flat the paint its not needed, just lacquer straight over the paint.
